Volume Descriptor [STFS]

I'm shifting through the STFS page on free60 and saw something about Volume Descriptor. I'm not to sure what it's for but by my assumption I think it's something to do with file size. Could someone correct me and maybe point me in the right direction, thanks.

Yes for file blocks (@0x379) which contains information to determine the file structure type, allocated blocks etc.
