It seems that sopa has been shelved!
it would be better to stay vigilant as its only 'shelved'
It'll be back on the agenda after the next president has been elected!
Or was sopa just a smoke screen?

The president has nothing to do with SOPA, it's a Congress thing. Also, the most that can happen to these kinds of bills is for them to get shelved; the only way to kill a bill is for there to either be a majority vote against it or a veto and less than 2/3 vote for it. If we do see it come back into play, it will be after both heavy revision and a new wave of Senators. For all intents and purposes, SOPA (and its brother PIPA) are dead.
No, what we really need to worry about isn't the American SOPA, but the Global (European introduced) ACTA, which is basically SOPA's bigger and meaner cousin. Not only that, but ACTA's already been signed by the US president and most of the European leaders in secret years ago.

Didn't they already announce that SOPA will not take affect? And plus none of this will even pass to be a law, it's just to much power that is given to the government but that doesn't mean they can't do what they want but SOPA, PIPA and ASCU I think that's what it's called is just a scare tactic to stop piracy and other illegal things that happens on the internet
Re: Stop SOPA in its tracks show your support here!
Perhaps SOPA and PIPA, but not ACTA. It isn't a US bill being passed around, it's a world-wide treaty that's already been signed by the president. The only reason the US hasn't felt the force of it is because Congress hasn't decided on how it should be carried out yet. ACTA isn't a new thing, it's been around at least since mid-2008. The only reason people have been hearing about it just recently is two-part: because SOPA has been taking the attention off it, and because the government's of the world (especially the US) refused to even acknowledge its existance until just recently. President Bush signed ACTA back in July '08, and March 31 of this year is the deadline for signatures. It only needs six states to sign the treaty, and I believe that more than that have signed.
ACTA is real, and it is most definitely on its way.
