Yup. I found that the respawning sinscales during the fight on the boat to kilika do, in fact, give you spheres. I definitely took advantage if that.

Could you do same thing with the standard sphere grid? it gives an additional 50 nodes. useful for stats and any abilities you want can be obtained by using master spheres or friend type spheres,...

About 50 less nodes and everyone starts in the center. earlier customization but harder to work with(easy to mess up)
