Developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have sent out an announcement confirming the rumored limited edition incentives for the upcoming multiplatform shooter, Battlefield 3. It's less of an actual limited edition pack and more a pre-order incentive, though.

For a limited time, those who pre-order Battlefield 3 will get the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand digital expansion pack for free. This themed multiplayer expansion pack includes four legendary maps from Battlefield 2 re-imagined and reworked with Frostbite 2 physics, destruction and visuals. The Back to Karkand expansion pack also comes with some classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, and new achievements and trophies.

“We are gearing up for a fight and we’re here to win,” said Karl Magnus Troedsson, General Manager of Battlefield 3 developer DICE. “Where other shooters are treading water Battlefield 3 innovates. Frostbite 2 is a game-changer for shooter fans. We call it a next-generation engine for current-generation platforms.”

“We wanted to create the most immersive and emotionally powerful Battlefield game ever and we needed new technology to deliver on our vision,” said Patrick Bach, Executive Producer. “Battlefield 3 preserves the franchise’s signature sandbox style and even brings back classic fan favourites like jets, going prone and 64-player multiplayer on PC.”

A leaked image touting the Back to Karkand pack a while back noted that the expansion pack will also be made available as a premium paid download about a month after Battlefield 3 hits retail.

Along with the announcement, EA and DICE also releasd a new trailer featuring our first glimpse at actual in-game footage from Battlefield 3. Check it out below. Battlefield 3 will be released on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this fall. The game will be getting a formal reveal next week during an EA Partners event at GDC.
