Tropico 4 Gold Edition - How To Mod Money

I thought I might write a tutorial on how to mod Tropico 4. I have posted starter saves here: http://www.360haven.com/forums/showt...ter-saves.html, but with these saves you can't customize the presidente. So for those who want to use there own avatar here is how you mod the cash:

1st you will need a few programs:

Horizon, Modio or similar to extract & inject

Windows GREP for easier searching

offzip & packzip to unzip

Your favorite Hex editor

Step 1. Make a fresh save at the start of a campaign this makes it so much easier to find your current balance. Once you have made the save you need to grab it off your storage device (make sure you backup the save). Once you have your save you need to extract the contents in the same location as offzip & packzip. I use an external drive (again it just makes it easier) so all the files & folders are on the root of my drive.



Step 2. You now need to unzip the extracted the contents of your save using offzip. You may want to create a folder called tropico because a whole load is going to be unzipped. Offzip uses a command window (if you double click application you will just be frustrated to death) so open up a command window (in windows it's usually c:/programs/accessories/command prompt) then type the following command f: (because i'm using f drive you may be using any drive letter) Press enter Then offzip.exe -a 71.sav f:/tropico -0
(your save may be a different number depending on the amount of saves you have)



Step 3. You now need to search through the 100 or so .dat files to find where your money is, so go ahead & run a great little free program called GREP. In grep use the search assistant to find the word balance (if you searched for the word money 25 different files would appear) make sure you search all files in a folder by selecting *.*. Then copy the file onto the same folder offzip packzip is on.



Step 4. Open up your favorite Hex editor, I use Hex workshop & search for the text money on the file you found the word balance on. Tropico hides nothing so once you have found the text money the amount will be directly between the texts money & balance current. So for example: The usual starting balance 20000 so using the base converter we found the hex value to be 00 00 4E 20 (Unsigned Long) That is what's going to be on the file. So now go ahead & edit the amount but be sure to edit the last 3 values (00 00 4E 20 will be 00 FF FF FF), you can enter any amount you like just use base converter, I type FF FF FF (which gives you 16777215 I have never used it all). If you are still having problems finding the the amount 20000 in text will be ..N. click on the dot left of the N & a cursor will be shown on the value.





Step 5. You now need to open up a command window to run packzip. you will have to type the name of the file you edited
For mine I'll Type the command f: ENTER packzip.exe -o 0x001cc049
001cc049.dat 71.sav ENTER (offzip & packzip are easier to run when the application & file are on the root of drives otherwise you need to type commands of exact locations).



Step 6. You now need to replace/inject the file back into your save. Then rehash & resign & load back into your storage device.



This my first tutorial ever & I hope I have helped. 1 last thing I should mention Tropico saves are completely random for each campaign so you will need to repeat these steps for each mission. But it sure does beat printing money just to stay ahead.

Nice work on the tut, was just wondering does it matter if you have the gold edition or reg. one? haven't had the time to test it out since my friend is using my game.
