Nintendo of Japan has confirmed that the server of an affiliate of Nintendo Co’s U.S. unit was accessed unlawfully a few weeks ago but no personal or company information was lost. Clearly this news must come as a huge relief to Nintendo, after Sony’s well documented troubles with hackers accessing personal information for millions of account users on the PlayStation Network.
“The server of an affiliate of Nintendo Co’s U.S. unit was accessed unlawfully a few weeks ago, but there was no damage”
“There were no third-party victims,” Toyoda said, while declining to elaborate. “But it is a fact there was some kind of possible hacking attack.”
- Company spokesman Ken Toyoda
The breach is supposed to have been made by the infamous hacking group Lulz Sec who have since stated that the attack was in no way malicious but just an opportunity to discover if Nintendo’s website has any blatant loopholes that hackers could use to their advantage.
