Open world zombie game also teases an 11th February reveal There must be something in the games development water this week. No sooner do we post a story about Evolve tantalising a reveal for next week when Techland's open world zombie survival game Dying Light releases a similar tease filled video for the same date.Meanwhile producer Tymon Smektala has been speaking to The Examiner about the challenges of producing a game that'll appear both on previous generation (Xbox 360) and the new generation (Xbox One) systems, saying that their in-house Chrome Engine 6 "is able to optimize the game for past-generation platforms while maintaining the next-level graphical sheen of the next-gen."
Interestingly enough, Smektala doesn't think that the game's parkour-based "Natural Movement" system is something that necessarily had to wait for the new consoles before it could be done, saying "it was possible on the past-generation platforms, but no one really did it - that's why we try to bring a taste of next-gen to X360 & PS3 by releasing our game on them as well."
"We strongly believe that the freedom of Natural Movement offers a real next-gen experience even on PS3 & X360, but we also know that our technology takes the graphical spoils of the new toys to the maximum. In other words, we could take the cross-generational period as a burden, but we looked at it as an opportunity, to challenge ourselves both in terms of gameplay and technological design."Attachment 13689Nevertheless, Tymon makes it clear that those who do get the game on the next gen systems will be treated to extra features, and a higher graphical fidelity with Techland aiming for that 1080p 60fps experience he mentioned back in December.
Dying Light still doesn't have an exact release date yet, but is expected to land on Xbox 360 and Xbox One alongside other formats later this year - here's Ed's most recent hands on. Do you agree with Smektala's comments?
