Top-notch Firaxis strategy effort and RPG-defence hybrid are the latest giveaways
Attention all armchair generals: it is a good time to be an Xbox Gold subscriber. March's free Xbox 360 games with Gold are Civilization Revolution, a turn-based empire building sim from Firaxis, followed by class-based multiplayer RPG Dungeon Defenders. The first is free from across 1st-15th March, the second from the 16th till the end of the month.
Civilization Revolution is probably Firaxis's finest console game save for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, though perhaps not the finest Civilization game. It boils down the 4X strategy template to primary colour fundamentals, trading the more esoteric aspects of empire management for a faster pace and a sharper interface. There's still plenty of depth, if you're the sort who gets incredibly worked up about things like irrigation. Our review has more.
I haven't had the chance to play Dungeon Defenders, but our US colleagues think it's rather excellent. The gist: four classes, several abilities per class, deployable defences, waves of enemies, lashings of local co-op. There's the trailer.
