I'm still researching everything concerning the levels, but haven't reached the damage yet.
I think that it might be randomizing the items when they're brought back up to 50. My guns all went down in damage, but my Zed's Demise whent up in damage when I brought it back to 50. It was 1994 before and it's 2060 after. I'll play with it a little bit and lower the level and raise it back up to see if it's kicking out the random stats that items get. (Which you can alter if you go through a loading screen and back before picking up the quest reward. I tested it with Gabe's Hammer to see how high I could get it.) Now that it's not 6 am I'll play with it. Might be a little while before I post since I gotta run errands today, but I shall test it!

    Re: Dead Island Editor

Okay. I havn't done an extensive test with every item in my inventory but it doesn't -seem- to be random at all.

Zed's Demise at level 50 does 2016 damage.
Zed's Demise at level 1 does 157 damage.
Zed's Demise taken back to level 50 does 2016 damage.

Pride Short Shotgun at level 50 does 841 damage.
Pride Short Shotgun at level 18 (wont go to level 1) does 357 damage.
Pride Short Shotgun brought back to level 50 does 841 damage.

    But there are some variations.

Original Orange Pistol (no first name modifier like Feeble, Weak, etc) does 452 damage after being upgraded to level 50. This lost roughly 100 damage from it's original damage when using the editor.
Feeble Pistol upgraded to level 50 and modded to be orange does 507 damage.

I also found a low end white Wakizashi that I took from 549 damage at level 45 to 2026 damage at level 50 and orange.

So what I'm thinking is that damage is actually tied directly to whatever the 'name' is. Even if it doesn't seem like it in game because the numbers are so minor at your level range, taking them to orange level 50 items will show the differences. I'd imagine that a 'spiteful' pistol, which has the top damage that Iv'e seen, when taken to level 50 orange will have higher damage then a non-named pistol or something like Feeble or Weak.

I obviously can't test every name, but as a general idea from what I've seen in my testing this -should- be accurate. Either way it's not randomized because a level 50 Zed's Demise taken back down to level 1 and reupped to level 50 has the same stats as the originally modded level 50.

Your damage and such WILL vary and change when you first mod though. Keep that in mind if you have a high level high damage/force weapon. If you open the save editor it will drop it to level 1 and you'll end up with randomized stats instead of the one's you originally had. In the long run though it doesn't seem to lower damage, save for guns and people are under the impression that an orange gun will always do max damage for that level regardless of what the numbers say.

    Re: Dead Island Editor

When I tested it I saw that when you raise the level the damage raises with it.
Then, when you change the color the worth value raises with it.
For example, a white level 1 weapon would be worth $150, and the same weapon changed to orange would be worth $850.

I believe there is still more values for the level that could result in higher damage, but I haven't been able to look yet.
I got some school work I need to take care of first, but once I'm done I'll be sure to check it out.

Also, just to confirm what I was talking about when I said, "values are not consistent amongst all weapons," I meant the corresponding Hex values which are in the gamesave.
