Get Dead Island game save from Xbox.

To get to your unencrypted Dead Island game save.

1. Using Modio use "Explore a device".
2. In Explore window select File then select Open/Close drive
3. In left pane Navigate to your encypted game save.
3. In right pane Select GS ot be modded then Right Click and Extract it to a folder (I use GS).
4. Close the explore window and in Modio do "Open a save".
5. Select the save and click on Open.
6. Click on tab File Contents.
7. Select the save and once again Right Click and Extract it
to a sub-folder (I use X)
8. Close the Open window.
9. Using Windows navigate to sub-folder and use 7zip to
open archive and extract save to same folder.
10. If you did this with save_0 you now have a save_0~.

The file save_0~ is your Unencypted GS.
At this point make all your modifications to save_0~
Your Unencrypted file (in this example is save_0~) is what ChgWpn can alter.
ChgWpn will accept any filename it is up to you to give it one with proper contents.

Now you will want to reverse the process to get changes back to Xbox.

1, Open archive the save in sub-folder (one without the ~ at end) with 7zip and replace the original unencrytpted file by dragging the file with ~ at end into 7zip window.
2. Close the 7zip window.
3. Modio and Open a save.
4. Navigate to first folder (I use GS) and open that save.
5. Click on tab File Contents and select the save.
6. Right click and select Replace File.
7. Navigate to sub-folder (I use X) and select save_0
(without the ~) and Click Open.
8. Click on tab General File Info.
9. Click on Rehash and Resign.
10. Click on Save To Device.

Try it out on Xbox.

The term golden is referring to its rarity not the color of the weapon itself. All the weapons offered in chgWpn are of level orange which I call golden because they are the most rare and thus most valuable in terms of money. If you rerun chgWpn you should see that the weapon you selected is present and in a bright yellow color. In game it will appear as a normal weapon. So sorry this does not make a golden gun, it just makes it the best of the best that it can be.

For those that know how to HEX edit your Dead Island unencypted GS:

I have a Windows Command Prompt program I created called WpnChg (Weapon Change). It assumes you know how to HEX edit a GS. It also assumes you are familiar with other command prompt programs like CD and DIR.

It took me some time to figure out and though this forum has been helpful I did figure it out by myself through trial and error.

With this program ChgWpn you can take basically any weapon that you are not holding and swap it with one from a list of weapons I have provided. All the weapons you can choose from are Golden and as good as I could find. Yes I did DNA splicing to "find" some of these but all have been tested and work well in game...

I just wanted to say that after reading for a few minutes, I was up and running with this program. Very straight forward to use. If you are looking for something to decrypt/encrypt your 360 saves, then I suggest you google DeadIsland Save Decrypter. It makes decrypting and encrypting your saves so much easier than using modio/7zip. Of course, you still have to rehash and resign with your program of choice (I use Concept or horizon). Overall, one of the more useful tools for getting hard to find weapons in this game.
