Yeah, I did, it didn't seem to work. I also updated Windows in Safe Mode; I got it to work yesterday doing that, but today it happened again. And again, it works after updating in Safe Mode, though I'm afraid it will crap out again tomorrow. But I guess I'll be sticking with XP after all. I think I'm just going to reinstall it. Thanks guys.

Recommending Windows Vista is already bad enough on its own, especially on older systems. :(
You can probably run Windows 7 even better than XP with that amount of memory.
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a computer that had worse specs than that (1GB RAM only instead of 1.75), and a CPU that was running at 2 GHz instead of 2.8, when I returned the computer they said it never ran that fast before, and they were able to do more things with it afterwards than before.
