I know this will come as a big shock to people but a resume from a Infinity Ward member suggest that Activision may already be working on a next generation Call of Duty title. I know you may need a moment from the shock of the idea that Activision might possibly be preparing a next generation Call of Duty title. According to the resume of Andrew Aye, Activision is currently working on a “Unannounced Title” that will released for Xbox 360, PS3, PC with DirectX11, and TBA platforms.
However, since the release of the information, the resume has been edited to pull down the part of “TBA platforms”, so as of right now this falls under rumor. Although you have a better chance of winning the lottery multiple times than Activision not making a Call of Duty next-gen title, so in this instance I use the word “rumor” loosely.
This wasn’t the first time that Infinity Ward has been “rumored” to be working on a next generation title. Earlier this year another resume was posted on the official Infinity Ward job board asking for a senior animator who would be interested in working with next-generation technology.
It will be interesting to see if the next-gen Call of Duty title will be a launch title for either system. That would be a major selling point for whichever next generation console system launched first with a true next-gen Call of Duty title.
The other question to be asked will this next generation Call of Duty title be released next year when we are suppose to get new consoles from both Microsoft and Sony, or is this project multiple years away?
At this point I don’t know what Activision and Infinity Ward can do to revitalize the franchise and bring some of the frustrated hardcore gamers back. I want to ask all the people who have given up on the Call of Duty franchise, is there anything Activision and Infinity Ward could do to bring you back to the franchise or has the brand been damaged beyond you ever wanting to play the games again?
