What's with all these new games coming out that play off the disc for like 90 seconds after loading even when I have installed them onto the hard drive? Kingdoms of Amalur just did it after I installed it. Skyrim also does it Anyone care to shed some light on why they do this? None of my older games do it.

I thought it was just a security thing added to newer games to check for piracy. Gears 3 does it as well

all my XGD3 games do that!
Before I start my games, I play an mp3 from my HDD and then start the game.
It makes short noises, like a XGD2 game!

It's the new format. All of them do this, some kind of checks after booting. Stops after a few minutes, it's no issue and nothing is wrong.

It so it can read the disc and see if it is a real xbox disc. Doesn't work anyway.

I get the same thing with FFXIII-2 its installed to my HDD but for the first 90 - 120 seconds it runs off the disc, by the time I load my game its using my HDD... doesn't happen with any other game I have!

I've been noticing that for a while as well, I think it was the January update that did it, haven't tried with any older games yet, but it's done that with every game I've rented or bought since x-mas.

I thought the same. It just takes longer to stop spinning. It'll stop.

Same here but a few patches ago for the xbox they said with the new format, you normally here it running from the disc for about a minute and then I don't here it know more or atleast for me it's this way.

I have that problem too. I thought maybe it had to do with my xbox not being the slim version.

i think it is only doing that because of the new xdg3 disk format.

it only does that when 1st loading, tho. it always reads from disk after that for me.

Could have something to do with the RGH's going online and the next ban wave, sort of a disc check or something?

I'd say the folks mentioning disc checks and XGD3 are right. The XGD3 discs probably just seem worse, as their checks more extensive, and are pushing the limits of the discs and older drives (which may be why some folks barely notice the change, while others sound like they have a Harrier landing in their living room).
