A week ago, Sony put out an image with text that simply read "Will Vengeance Bring Redemption? 4.19.12." People immediately thought God of War because of the theme and overall look of the thing. Well, turns out they were all right.

Today, Sony has announced God of War: Ascension. It was already known that Santa Monica Studios was working on some sort of AAA title and, yep, this is it. They even put out a little teaser trailer to wrap it all up nicely.
From the trailer, it looks like Ascension will be a prequel, which brings up an interesting question: Kratos without his trademark blades? Of course, you'd assume Kratos is a master of arms being a Spartan general and all, but without Kratos' blades the gameplay of God of War may be significantly different.
No release date has been attached yet, but the game's director, Todd Papy, will be holding a live streaming event on the PS Blog and Facebook at 8 AM PST on Monday, April 30th. Maybe we'll get some more info then.
