I did find those, I might add it later... Just search for "eRecap_MaxPower" (without the quotations).

Here's my testing results so far:

Editing any of my characters crashes the game when I try and load the save. Doesn't seem to matter which character, or the values used. Any changes, and the game crashes when loading the save.
I'm able to edit all the values, but only the Scientist/Engineer values actually changed in the game when I load the hacked save. All other values (Elerium, etc) showed pre-hack quantities.

As a note, when I load the save in the editor, the values shown for Elerium, Weapons parts, etc, do not match what is shown in game prior to the edit.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

You have to extract the file from within the save, then use the Decompression Toolkit on that file.

Looks like the Error is from the Weapon Fragments, if you don't have any, then the value isn't in the save...

Here you go, max money, Engineers, Scientists, Elerium and Alloys. Let me know if the Elerium and Alloys worked...

Brotherivx
10-11-2012, 10:31 PM
Cool thank you. The only thing that looks like it sticked is Money. Everything else still the same. I'll play a little bit to get more resources for you. I only have: 7 Sectoid Corpse, 9 Elerium, 32 Alloys, 16 Weapon Fragments. I'll re-upload to when i have over a 100 for everything. Also scientists i have 9 and engineers only 5.

UPDATE: I got the scientist and engineers to stick when i put it at 75 each, but at 99999+ it doesn't stick. The resources i can't get to stick at any value

For those in need...I have successfully edited my elerium, alien alloys, and weapon fragments and got it to stick with a hex editor. The items are in an array with I am guessing all the other research material. Search for the text string m_arrItems and you find the values for elerium, alien alloys, and weapon fragments near the bottom of the array.

Here is edited save file with elerium, alien alloys, and weapon fragments at 9999.
Scientists and Engineers at 99.
Credits at 99975678.

EDIT::Removed endgame save and replaced it with a beginning of the game save.

I can confirm that this not only works, but if you make a note of the quantities of all the other items you have (Sectoid corpses, etc), you can find and edit those values as well. They're actually found in the same order as they are listed in the 'grey market' in the game.

Thanks for the very fruitful investigating.

I have a save file here that I spent some time on editing values in the m_arrItems array.

Items--values
sectoid corpse 100
sectoid commander corpse 99
floater corpse 98
thin man corpse 97
muton corpse 96
muton elite corpse 89
cyberdisc corpse 88
ethereal corpse 87
chryssalid corpse 86
sectopod corpse 85
drone corpse 84

ufo flight computer 100
ufo power source 99
hyperwave beacon 98***plot item
fusion core 97
ethereal device 96***plot item
outsider shard 89 ***plot item

The plot items you may not want to add as you cannot sell them and I dont know what would happen to a save that is not far enough along in the storyline to research the plot item.

I have not figured out the live alien locations in the array but I would guess their array locations are in between the drone corpse and elerium array locations.

- Added Sectoid Corpse, Thin Man Corpse, UFO Flight Computer(damaged) and UFO Power Source(damaged) Modding
Was just about to search for these in the hex editor. Good work

The editor does work btw. When decompressing, you should have around 6-10 bytes. The editor will aways say not responding right when you load up your save but give it time and it will work. If it doesnt, then make a new save

ive been able to make it work but saving the file as a save.2 instead of of horizon's default save2 seems to do it but i have no idea how to convert the save.2.rebuilt back into a save2 file that horizon will recognize. does anyone know how do i proceed?

I have done this. Both made a new save in game, and extracted the save file again. If you have been reading all the posts in this thread, I have been giving it tons of time to load. For me the editor does NOT work. It simply hangs or gives an error exactly like the one posted above. Does anyone have any input other than "give it time" or "make a new save"? Would anyone who can get the editor to work be willing to mod my save for me since I am have no luck with it?

Okay, I have some information that someone may find useful.

Tried this with XCOM Editor v1.3, v1.4, v1.5, and v1.6.
It does work, and quite well - thank you - with Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.

HOWEVER, it doesn't work with all saves.

When I decompress the save file data, I get a different number of "Blocks" with different saves. On saves where there were more than 10 blocks decompressed, the editor couldn't open them. But, on saves with, say only 6 blocks, it opened them just fine and I was able to edit, save, compress, replace, rehash, resign, and everything loaded up and played just fine.

Of course, the save that I really want to edit has 43 blocks. . .
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks.

EDIT
Further research and comparison of many save files leads me to believe that the "extra" blocks come from saves made while in a mission. saves made back at base seems to have blocks of 6 to 10 in them and these are easily opened by the editor.
The save I mentioned above, with 43 blocks, was only 10 blocks once I made it back to base and saved again. The editor was able to open it fine then.
Perhaps it's a quirk, but I hope this information helps other people, too.

The ones with more blocks just take longer to open. My last one had 26 blocks and it still worked, just took longer too load in the editor

Huh. Weird. I was just trying to be helpful and thought I might be on to something.

When I try to open one save that has 14 blocks and another that has 22, I get .NET exception errors that an index is out of range. But, the lower-block ones load just fine.

I'm not a programmer, I have no idea if the number of blocks have anything to do with anything. I'm just posting what I've gleaned from my experience in the hopes that it may lead someone else to success. =]

Ha no you definitely are right. The blocks just represent information. The more info, the longer it takes to load. Sometimes it helps to just make a new save. Make sure your not in a mission or anything either.

How many of you are running the editor in a Windows VM? I wonder if that is the cause of my problems. The decompression goes perfectly, and no matter how many blocks the save is, the editor won't open any of them. I now get "not responding" for minutes on end, followed by the error that has already been posted. Are there any leads as to the cause of the error?

6.compressed and get save1.rebuilt
7.inject
8.load the save, all the values still the same

once you open the command prompt type cd desktop then enter then you
type: xcom.exe -d save1(wat number is your save for ex. save1, save2, and ect) and then type save1.d putting .d at the end. it should look like this "xcom.exe -d save1 save1.d
now you can open the editor and open and you will see save1 or save1.d.
now to compress it go back to command prompt and type "xcom.exe -c save1.d save1 press enter and wait for it when you see save1..rebuilt
once you have save1.rebuilt replace file back into your save using Horizon

Thank you very much for this, idlehands.
On a side note, there is one site that is using your editor without even giving you credits and to make things worse,it makes you undertake surveys with phishing viruses.
I will p.m you the link.

okay heres my problem did everything correct (decompress etc) but when it came to loading the decompressed save file in the editor i get an "unhandled exception has occured" message box and i get to options continue or quit. when i hit quit it quits but when i hit continue nothing happens and ive waited believe me. From my understanding its all about the blocks you have in the save con. small ones laod in the editor no problems ive done it, already mod to the max, but what i really want to do is mod the soldiers and to do this you need a seregeants rank for them(for the nickmanes) and this my friend take a little while to do esspecilly if you want more than one. Well here the delimia by the time i get at least 2 sergeants the save is to large(to many blocks)and the editor doesnt open it it give me that open window with the "unhandled exception has occured"pls anyone with answers, directions or help i would greatly appricate it....thanks oh and i forgot good job by I.H. on this trainer anyway thanks

I got it to decompress fine, the tool works great, but the damn thing won't re-compress!

I don't THINK I'm stupid, but who knows... I mean, this is the right command to re-compress right?

c:\derp\xcom.exe -c C:\derp\save32.d C:\derp\save32

Other than that, I just don't know! I tried all I know, and just get nothing. No file comes out the other end.

I've the same problem here. My decompressed file is around 1MB and it seems that your file has a problem with the amount
of the decomp. blocks. I get also an out of bound exception. Here the exception (Its on german, hope it helps anyway):

Thanks for the editor got it to work.

The problem is, like someone said earlier was if you have already modded the save, you can't use the editor. You will get an out of bounds error or something else, so you have to start fresh. And by fresh I mean after the first mission where you are back in the "ant farm" Once I started a fresh save and decompressed it, it worked like a charm. But if you want to mod your soldiers, you will have to wait it out and get them promoted so the game assigns them a "nickname" other wise you won't be able to edit your characters. Because if you mod your game and then try to mod your soldiers, you will get the out of bounds errors since you maxed out your resources.

Hi,

This editor works well, it must be done on several tests and verify that follows the instructions ...

I have a small question:

I changed the stats of a soldier using his nickname looking at the picture posted by Idlehands88:

9944

But loading my game it crash.

Is that there is a limit to mod the stats?

Thank you again for this great work.

[QUOTE=Slamel;147683]1) Run Horizon
2) Open your USB in Horizon
3) Find the save
4) Drag save into work area of Horizon
5) Click Contents
6) Right click on saveX (X is whatever number save you have. i.e. save6, save7)
7) Extract
8) Run CMD
9) Drag xcom compression tool into the DOS window
10) press spacebar, type -d, press spacebar again
11) Drag your extracted save into the DOS window
12) At the end of the second set of save information, after dropping it into the DOS window, add ".d" to the end of the save (i.e. save6.d, save7.d), press enter
13) Run Idlehands editor
14) Open the saveX.d file in the editor.
15) Wait for a few minutes while it loads.
16) Edit values
17) Save
18) Follow steps 8 and 9 again to use the compression tool
19) press spacebar, type -c, press spacebar
20) Drag the newly edited saveX.d file into the DOS window
21) press spacebar
22) drag the edited saveX.d file into the DOS window again
23) delete the ".d" at the end, press enter
24) Go back to Horizon where you left your save file in the working area.
25) Click contents
26) right click on the save
27) select replace
28) choose your saveX.rebuilt file
29) click Save, Rehash, and Resign
30) Play your edited save

hey dude awesome tutorial, i got it all ok using your method although when save goes back to xbox it says save corrupted, Any suggestions?

I think that version 1.3 of this editor lets you do that.
Theres a save set by smoko400 on the "modified saves" forum with 4 soldiers modded with 999 Will,999 Movement,999 HP,999 Aim.
Smoko should know how to do it.

The save with the max soldiers and what not, is made on a jtag machine using a mod. That is why when you load it, you will have a few glitches in the save, but nothing that will stop game play.

alright its official i call shenanigans! i am getting the same error as everyone else, "index was outside the bounds of the array," I've waited, I've tried 9 different saves form the end of the game to as early as right after mission one. i know people were talking about the size of the save being an issue but the smallest i can get it is 160 kb. i have used the compression toolkit by fairchild with the command prompt lines C:\x\xcom.exe -d C:\x\save C:\x\save.decompressed when i press enter the logo pops up with:
- open input file: C:\x\save
- File size: 0x00028000 <163840> (that's as low as i could get it)
- reading buffer from file, done.

The instructions for Fairchild's decompression tool in post #117 were great, just one hiccup.

It wasn't clear to me in step 12 so I thought I would mention it for the folks like me who don't really know much about this stuff.

In step 12 I had to drag the saved game into the cmd window per the instructions, press the space bar and then drag the saved game into the cmd window a second time and then add the .d to the end. Only then would it produce a new saved game with the .d suffix.

Thank you for the editor, it's a great tool!

Editor and compression toolkit work great but for the unhandled exception error with an out of bounds value once it's been modded already.

So, now I'm onto trying to hex edit my soldiers and I'm running into difficulty. I see the Intproperty.......iXP and whatnot, but what value am I going to edit exactly? I'd like to rank up my soldiers all to colonels and give them the psi gift... but I can't seem to get what value to edit. I've tried multiple values to no avail.

Anybody more experience/knowledgeable than myself care to enlighten me? Thanks in advance.

I havent seen these ERROR mentioned yey.

When I go to load the save from the games main menu, it tells me " Some save games were not displayed because they were created in another language "

I am wondering if it is because - when I modded my save I changed stuff I didn't have yet.. like I changed muton corpses from 0 to 9999. and I had 0 alloys and changed it to 9999.

Or is it that I changed the values to high? should I only change them to 99 instead of 9999?

I seriously would like to know how people manually hex edit their soldiers, since I keep getting the errors with the editor. I've found the values, but I get funky errors like the edited soldier losing his/her head entirely and having strange question marks over the abilities region that I CAN rank up, but only 2-3 times. This after editing psi gift and psi xp.

I'd seriously just like to know how to edit the psi gift and XP (so I can rank them up right away) on soldiers manually. I've found the values, but I'm clearly missing something.

Doctor_Hyde

So it seems like the psi gift is a boolian property, but I can't for the life of me find the difference between an obviously psi-gifted soldier (tested for it) and a non-gifted one. The Hex looks the exact same for both, even in saves after the psi testing chamber becomes available.

I can find differences like kills, XP, rank, etc. but changing those is screwing up the save. I figured a simple yes/no property would be easier to manage, but alas no.

Anybody else have success with manual edits?

It does in fact fix it. For whatever reason, the PC-updated compression tool seems to make the language glitch on the 360 saves. If you use his original compression tool, you're golden - and you can dance with glee as Idlehands' editor rains resources upon your Xcom forces.

Neither have I, I'd like to be able to do some character editing (pre-SGT, and for things like nationality, stats, etc.).

I did notice someone released a trainer for PC elsewhere with soldier editing, and then elsewhere (I think on here) someone released a save with the starting 4 troops having 999 in most everything, but apparently it could be a bit glitchy? If saves can be ported between 360 and PC, then you could use the trainer to edit troop stats (if it works), or perhaps compare the values changed between the starter save that was edited and your current save to find the values that were changed to 999... I was considering doing that, but if it's buggy then I'm not sure if that's a good idea... unless it's just due to the values being too high...

Edit: In attempting to figure out what was changed to 999 in the super-save set that was released on the forums here, I was a little confused. Searching for the hex string 03E7 (999) showed that it seemed to be assigned to a bunch of values around scientists/engineers... nothing that looked like it had anything to do with soldiers.

I think he said he was done with this game, unfortunately.

Looking at the soldier information, some of it seems pretty obvious:

ESoldierClass.........eSC_Sniper.........None..... ....kSoldier.........StructProperty............... ..TSoldier.........iID.........IntProperty........ .............strFirstName.........StrProperty..... ............Danielle.....strLastName.........StrPr operty

Most of it follows a format of label/value like that.

strFirstname(what variable is it)
strProperty(type of variable, string)
Danielle (actual value)

These go through a number of values in order: class, name, rank, etc. Including a list of customization values for head, etc.

After that part, it gets a bit less obvious, and seems to handle inventory:
eWeaponType.........ByteProperty.................E WeaponProperty.........eWP_Sniper.........None.... .....None.........None.........kChar.........Struc tProperty.................TCharacter.........strNa me.........StrProperty.................Soldier.... .iType...

And it does this with armor as well as "large items" "custom items" and "upgrades"

Right after that part it jumps to abilities and stats, which would seem to be the part one would be interested in, with respect to adjusting stats:

aAbilities.........IntProperty.................... .aAbilities.........IntProperty............&........aProperties.........IntProperty........... ..........aProperties.........IntProperty......... ............aStats.........IntProperty

Between "abilities" and "traversals" (no idea what the latter might refer to) there appear to be six values for stats:

aStats.........IntProperty.....................aSt ats.........IntProperty................K....aStats .........IntProperty.....................aStats... ......IntProperty.....................aStats...... ...IntProperty................T....aStats......... IntProperty

All of them integers apparently. Unfortunately, that number seems off. If you're looking at a character in-game, there are: HP, Defense, Will, and Aim. (that's 4). If you include movement which can also be modified by armor (and some abilities) it goes up to 5. So, what is the 6th stat?

If I'm reading it right, the values were (in order):

9, 75, 12, 1, 84, 27

9 is probably HP, 75 Will, 84 Aim

Or at least, those make sense value-wise. No clue what the others would be in that case

Interestingly, there's a "hasPSIgift" variable, but despite being a boolean value, it only seems to appear on people that have the gift. Perhaps it appears on people that have been tested and found to have "No gift" as well, in which case modifying the value would be simple.... but would require you do psi- testing before changing it.

I'm getting the same error as well. I have used a fair amount of editors already, & I know I'm doing something wrong. Here's the steps I'm taking.

I've downloaded both the current versions of your editor & the compression toolkit, & ofcourse unzipped them into their own dirs.
I've opened up a save file in Horizon from the thumbdrive.
I've gone to the contents tab & extracted the save1 file.
I've then decompressed that save1 file & named it save.d
I've started the editor, located the save.d file & opened it.
It takes roughly 20 secs before I get the error "Unhandled exception has occured in your application. blah, blah, blah.... Index was outside the bounds of the array."

That's where I'm at. & I know it's probably something silly I'm missing too.

Thanks for any/all the help.

Thanks Idle. This one works great for me, but would love to be able to edit soldier stats and search for soldiers by name not nick name so you can find them before sergeant rank. I tried hexing the stats myself for my ironman run but I'm afraid I made a mess of it =p.

I was getting this same error and after reading back a few pages, I seen that somebody said something about a save at your base being less blocks that one out in a mission. I re-saved my game at base, and after decompressing it again it dropped from something like 26 blocks or so to 10 blocks. That save worked like a charm in the editor.

That's not far off my setup.

1. On your 360, save your game to your USB stick or copy the save from your HDD to the USB stick
2. Insert USB stick into your PC's USB port.
3. Run USBXTAF
4. Navigate to the profile/game you're going to use, right-click the save, and extract it somewhere easy to find, like your desktop
5. Open Modio or Horizon
6. Open the save you extracted to the desktop (save3 or what have you)
... From there, you should be able to view the file contents of the save
7. In Modio, you can click the right tab on the save info screen to get the file contents, select the only file available (it will have the same name as the original save) and extract it somewhere OTHER than where you saved the file from your USB (a good place is your XCOM compression tool's folder).
8. Open a command prompt (this brings you to a black screen with a C: prompt)
9. Navigate to wherever your XCOM compression tool is, you can do this by using the change directory command (i.e. cd users) this is easier if you know the path for your xcom compression tool, or if you put the folder directly on the C drive.
10. If the file you extracted with Modio/Horizon is in the folder, the next part is simple:
11. type the part in quotes, but replace the asterisks with the number of your save "xcom -d save* save*.d"
... this will produce a decompressed version of your save
12. You can now edit that file (save*.d) with idlehands' editor, make sure to save over the same ".d" file and NOT the original
13. Go back to the command prompt screen, now type this (the part inside quotes) "xcom -c save*.d save*" -- this is basically the same thing as before, but backwards. This should produce a compressed version of your save
14. Go back to modio/horizon, while still looking at the file contents, look at the file you previously extracted. Select "replace" and then select the compressed file you just made.
15. Within Modio select rehash & resign
16. Go to USBXTAF, with the drive still open, you can select the save you just previously extracted. Delete it, then inject the save you saved to the desktop earlier (should be newly rehashed and resigned). After that's done, close the drive, and select safely remove hardware before removing your usb.
17. You should now be able to load up the save from the drive in your xbox.

Worth noting that this list of instructions doesn't really provide for back ups (I tend not to bother if the save was just made).

Think the out of index and value not in range errors occur if you have the soldier DLC installed. I was having the same issues until I went back to a save before I had installed the DLC and it worked fine.

Ok.. did some stuff to see what I could find. I think our problem might simply be the DLC content. I did three things.. started a new game, didn't use the tutorial and uninstalled the DLC. Edited a save and it worked... so the problem is one of those things..

make sure when you extract from horizon you selectively extract the file not "extract all" and make sure its highlighted and the press "extract selected" and it will say "successful"

Hey guys, I want to start by saying thank you to fairchild for making the Compression Toolkit for this game, without it, modding the game wouldn't be possible!!!!

Here is a basic Editor for the game XCOM: Enemy Unknown :P

Do not post this on any other website without my permission!!!

REQUIREMENTS:
fairchild's Compression Toolkit (http://www.360haven.com/forums/showthread=18526-%5Brelease%5D-xcom-enemy-unknown-compression-toolkit.html)

HOW TO USE:

1. Open your Save in Horizon and click the "Contents" tab
2. Right-click the file in the list and select "Extract"
3. Use fairchild's Compression Toolkit (Make sure for the output you name the file "save.d")
4. Open the "save.d" file in the Editor (will take about 5-10 seconds to load)
5. Mod what you want
6. Press Save and Compress the "save.d" file back into your extracted file from Step 2
7. Replace the "save.d.rebuilt" file back into your save using Horizon (Contents tab>>Right-click>>Replace)
8. Rehash/Resign
9. PLAY!

HOW TO MOD YOUR SOLDIER(S):

1. After opening your save in the Editor, type in the Nickname of the Soldier you want to mod
2. Press the "Load" button above the Nickname
3. Wait 3-5 seconds
4. Mod what you want and press "Save" (This does NOT save the Currency and Research values)
5. Type in a new Nickname if you want to mod another Soldier (if not skip this step)

EDITOR:
http://imageshack.us/a/img855/1070/xcomeditorv16.png

I will run a new game without DLC on my disc and try modding it again.

Hi, I just wanted to post this for anyone looking to edit their soldiers values.
You will need the compression toolkit, horizon and hex workshop.
Use Horizon to extract your game save and decompress it, once you've decompressed your file, open it with hex workshop.
Use the find function (looks like binoculars) to search for the first name of intended soldier.
I find it useful to go into tools > find strings and set the string amount to 5 then select whole file. This just highlights all the names and properties that we'll be looking for.
once you've found the name, scroll up, not down and you will start seeing stuff like psigiftbool and traversals, go past all that and you will come to aStatIntProperty. This is what you are looking for!
There's a whole bunch of them but the only ones you need are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 8th. Respectively being; HP, AIM, DEFENSE and WILL.
You're gonna be changing the 16th bit after the highlighted (see above) aStatIntProperty, change it to 03E7.
This will change your 4 main stats to 999.
Save the changes.
Re-compress your file.
Replace the original in Horizon.
Rehash and resign.
Enjoy!!

Hope this helps.

Sorry if this got answered already but I didn't feel like reading 23 pages lol.
Tried using this a few times.
Followed all the steps of decompressing then modding and decompressing. Everything went fine
Tried to max all, tried just cash and scientists/engineers, and even just some small changes.
Every single time when I boot my save there was no change
Can someone help with why I cannot get any results?

hapaxlegomenon
04-29-2013, 02:24 AM
ok. I can probably find those values really quickly. I have two saves: one was before doing an alien base (with high panic) and the other is after (-2 world panic). this might be a ridiculous question, but does anyone know I have to adjust a checksum for hex edits? I've never hex edited a game for a console made in the last decade. no security, according to the fairchild compression thread.

also, has anyone figured out if there's a way to unlock the elite soldier pack perks? specifically armor tints/colors -- I'm seeing the values here (iArmorDeco, iArmorTint), but I'd prefer to have the option available in game to change whenever I want. I've read about a way around it in PC, editing the ini file, and if the game is anything like ME3, the content should all be there, just need a way to make it available.
