When I try opening my save in the editor it keeps giving me a mismatch error. I used the editor a couple of times before without any problems, also I'm using the .sav file and not the save#.

Make sure you've updated to the latest version (http://www.360haven.com/forums/showthread=21310-gibbeds-borderlands-2-save-editor-revision-146-jan-11-2013-a.html) of the editor.

also make sure it is as an xbox360 file instead of PC or PS3 or vice versa, there is a drop box where you select what ur file is that you are trying to open, if its not this then not sure how to help sorry

It doesn't seem to be working with both of your suggestions. Maybe if I try using a new toon.

Thanks for letting us know.
If you actually want to get your problem resolved and make use the editor, you should post your issue in the official support thread (http://blog.gib.me/2013/01/11/borderlands-2-save-editor-revision-146/comment-page-1/#comments) on Gibbed's blog. You can speed the process along by posting a copy of the save you are trying to use as well.
Now, knowing that mismatch errors are often a result of version compatibility issues between the save and the editor, my suggestion would be to try the following:
1. Start Borderlands 2. Allow game to update to latest version.
2. Load save in game. Save & quit. You now have an "updated" save.
3. Open extracted GameSave.sav from updated save in latest version of editor.
4. Make sure to select 360 as type when opening save.

I've tried all the basic fix it problems, but it still won't work, but all my saves from the PC work fine in it. I'll try that support thread you mentioned.

Selecting the correct platform is super important. I didn't do that at first and was frustrated when it didn't work, works great now.

I don't know if you are still having trouble Nayroy but I was having the same problem and figured it out. Not sure what you use to extract your save but I use Horizon. Instead of extracting the entire save file open the file, go to the contents tab, and extract the SaveGame.sav and that is what you open in the editor. Hope that solves it.
If this doesn't make sense to you here is a link to a tutorial video. Just do exactly what he does.
