View Full Version : I'm a bit worried about modding/editing a Brink save...

Have a feeling that even if we get past the checksum, there is still the anti-cheat system to get past online and I'm also afraid that if we take our modded characters online, we will get banned.
Normally, I'm not worried about such things because I successfully took a few modded Borderlands characters online before without problems, but that was different. (Not much security/anti-cheat system on that one.)
With Shooters/First Person Shooters, people tend to notice these things more easily and report people.
The most basic solution is to not go online with those characters, but that'd be a little less fun.
I know before I said I don't condone of online cheating and that still holds true, but that's more in regards to things like "God Mode, Infinite Health, Infinite Ammo, Auto-aim" and etc.
All I really want to do is unlock every single ability for each class instead of being limited and that's it.
Think the anti-cheat system will cause any problems for us or get us banned?

Well, the reason I'm asking is because sometimes we've managed to find a way around these kind of things or go unnoticed by others.
Damn, this sucks...

What ever you earn offline works online as long as you don't have God mode or something silly like that online. On the PC version multiplayer is through steam and you know what they are like. ISO modding should be easy as soon as I get my hands on a tool to unpack the .sdpk2.
PS3 version is zlib I think while the pc and xbox version is lzx whatever they are.

I dunno about that ISO modding stuff or what Steam is like. (Not a big PC gamer, but do play some games on PC and plan to get Diablo III when it comes out.) I am using a retail Xbox and am mostly talking about modding the saves.
Whether online or offline, there are only 20 levels in the game, 5 ranks. For each level up, you get only 1 point to use to buy abilities. And you only get 20 levels, so that's 20 points. Not enough to buy every single ability for each class, which is what I'd like to mod/edit. THAT is what I'm worried about going online with and getting caught. Unless other people can't see your abilities, in which case I guess it should be find.
That and I would hope the anti-cheat system doesn't detect it.
What are your thoughts and opinions on it PureIso?

WHOA! Trippy signature, man!
I like looking at stuff like that.
But yeah, I see your point. Think it would be worth it to try our hand and risk the fates with this game?

You think it's "crappy" because everyone thinks its bad. After playing the game and trying to understand it, I started to enjoy it :)
I like it way better than team fortress anyway.

I am personally already done with the game. They need to fix Solo player so the bots don't use stuff you don't have unlocked yet. Also the bots are a bit to smart on the slide and knock down technique. I even tried turning the difficulty down to easy and still the game don't seem any easier. I mean it's not hard or anything just gets me pissed off is all at times cause the bots are sometimes to smart or to good...all the while my medics run right past me and ignore me half the time. They could of done so much more with this game if you ask me.

In comparison to team fortress 2 this game has terrible underlying issues that tf2 covered by including certain gameing mechanisms.
In singleplayer, tasks are completely nerfed by the enemy if they manage to set up shop in the area next to the target since there's no method of achieving something besides killing all of them in sight but that requires the rest of your team that have an unhealthy obsession with command posts.
They need to include an uber mechanism or something, it was implemented in tf2 for a reason.
Single Player was frustrating yet hilarious, all they needed to do was let you control the bots objectives, maybe even some squad commands (follow me, defend area etc) because otherwise they're all off doing their thing and you can't progress without their help.
Escort missions were the funniest, having to have a medic on 24/7 standby who is constantly eyeing up the command posts or dying is impossible.
I'm curious how they chose to handle the fact that an experienced player has more equipment than a fresh character and thus will win every time, again in comparison to tf2, the experienced players may have more gear but the gear has its own pros and cons and some of the starter gear is still better depending on playstyle and preference, in brink you have a lv 1 engineer who can't build a thing verses one who can build an auto turret. Even if separated there's going to be some bleeding of the ranks.
The operatives disguise technique feels like its missing something, i did find it useful to disguise and then rush an enemy but it feels like its missing something, assassinations perhaps.
Medics themselves are rage inducing, by making their only purpose require energy they are useless after 2 minutes on the front line, not sure how i feel about the self revival but at least it's original.
I was going to get the game for pc after the test run on the xbox, no such purchase is going to take place now.
There probably won't be much to worry about in terms of taking modded characters online, if all the 'cheating' is done in singleplayer there's not much they can do about it, I did the same thing on killing floor, no vac bans or anything for editing the crap out of my levels offline, but thats slightly different...

Eh, I'm done with this game and I am going to trade it in. That's one less worry or focus on my mind. Disregard this thread altogether.

Pay him no mind, pureIso.
I can say that I DID indeed play this game and try my best. I played it for as long as I could withstand it before finally losing interest in it altogether. This game is simply not for me and I have to agree with others that it is kind of crappy.
That's not to say this is a terrible game... It's just... "Decent" and nothing more.

In your opinion, at least give people a chance to play a game before you in fluence them. People also told be the game was bad, I played it and I quiet frankly like it. Not the best game but I like it enough to still keep playing it. At the end of the day its all down to preference. I am not a cod fan or team fortress and these games people love.
:) :)
Has anyone else reached level 20/rank 5 yet? When I did it said that I unlocked several items that don't appear anywhere, but I see bots using them. Like napalm grenades and napalm mines.

It's a fun little Game with some minor problems but it sure isn't worth 60$, maybe around 30-40$ tops.
My Dislikes:
1.)While the Graphic-Style is kinda nice it lacks detail in everything and has some minor Graphical load up Issues.
2.)The Bots on your Team are so useless at helping you out Completing your Objective, while the enemy bots are extremely smart stopping you from even getting close to completing your Objective.
3.) I've had some Minor lag problems playing with my friends but it seems to have been fixed.

Actually, there is a new modding program called Horizon ( link is http://www.xboxmb.com/horizon/ ) and you can get past the anti-cheat system really easily, it even tells you how to do it. Another thing: I haven't found any infinate health or max damage mods yet, and I dont expect to find any anytime soon, some mods I have found, though, include changable jump height, toggling ironsights, auto reload, and changing the game from an FPS to a TPS, but I also haven't had any luck finding a way to get every ability, sorry.
