View Full Version : Microsoft Points being axed!
Microsoft has announced plans to ditch Microsoft Points.
Speaking at the company's E3 press conference at the Galen Center in California, Marc Whitten, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Xbox Live, said the company intends to replace the long-standing virtual currency with real money transactions on Xbox.

seems like a good move unless they charge you to refill your account

Yeah I agree, it seems like a good move but hopefully there will be no catch.
Ill miss Microsoft points, but real currency is fine too.

Yeah might be a good idea but there will be a catch somewhere. This is Microsoft we're talking about after all.

I do not see why they would do this... What about people who do not want to enter credit card info into there console?
It is great for people who do not mind entering their credit cad info but not for others, but hey, I guess this is modern times and people need to switch over.

Wait are they talking about just switching to real currency or are they talking about abolishing their prepaid cards altogether? I'm all for switching to real money but why wouldn't they just make their 1600 point cards into $20 prepaid MS cards?
Ultimately it won't matter for me since I'll never get an xbone, but trusting MS with my CC info isn't something I'd do.

i think its about time. my card is already on my xbox so i can by ms points. so it make no difference to me. the only thing is can you still share with the people in your family account?

I am happy that M$ is getting rid of the point cards. You always have leftover points that you end up spending on stupid avatar crap or something due to how the prices of DLC are weird.

I am happy they are getting rid of them, hate that I have random point amounts that I cannot do anything with. Also it sucks when you need a certain amount and your only choice is to buy a greater amount and then you cannot do anything with the left over total.

It's simple.
They're getting rid of this system because people are selling Microsoft Point Packages on ebay for a cheaper price than Microsoft sells them.
So now they get rid of them, and basically force players to buy stuff directly from Microsoft, thus they get profit again.
There's no real catch to it, it's just their way of destroying other 'cheaper' alternatives to MSP.
Oh Microsoft, what are you doing with your console. :(
