The latest North American retail figures have revealed that Nintendo Wii and 3DS sales are in decline throughout the region.

According to Eurogamer, the Nintendo Wii's 172,000 sales in the US during April is its lowest ever sales total since it launched, down 38% on the same period last year.

The Nintendo 3DS, meanwhile, managed to sell 194,000 units during April, compared to the near 400,000 units sold in its opening week.

Poor Nintendo Wii sales could be due to the console's imminent price cut, which will see it reduced to $150 in the US and £129 in the UK, while Nintendo officials are suggesting that 3DS sales will pick up once more software arrives.

Wii sales may also have been affected by speculation surrounding the console's successor - which will be officially unveiled at E3.

Elsewhere, the Xbox 360 was the region's top seller during April, shifting 297,000 units, while the PlayStation 3 enjoyed a hike in sales despite the recent PSN hack, selling 203,000 consoles.

Not suprised at all, its recession but no...Nintedo bring out an Expensive item which I believe is still a step down from the power of the PSP.

Then there is the fact that Nintendo doesn't see a dime from used sales, like Gamestop or Ebay. Of course, with Dead Or Alive Dimensions, Ocarina of Time, StarFox, and Megaman Legends 3, you better believe I'm hot on the heels of a 3DS!

I am not surprised at all. I just wonder what took it so long to slow down. 3DS doesn't have anything available for it anyways. Nintendo needs to keep the software coming until the Stream is released. We'll have an idea of what to expect in a few weeks at E3.
