View Full Version : Maybe we need a Rant Forum?

After watching the weirdness over donation requests for the Diablo 3 item editor maybe we should have a rant/complaint area. It would still have to abide by the rules, but would give an area where members could complain without cluttering up the other threads. That way when a complaint starts instead of 30 replies that give attention to the negative statements we could say "Either PM or post in the complaints forum. This is not the place.". That way if people want to read them and respond they can and everyone else can get on with our lives, well what little we have between gaming and this site. 8)

I've never heard of Rant forum but if you want me to create one then please answer few questions.
what would you name the forum? Just "Rant" or something else?
How would you describe the Forum?

just my opinion but this sounds exactly like the chit chat forum section,"Off-Topic Discussion - Talk about anything that doesn't fit in another forum"

Yeah but ranting in the ChitChat Forum could also be considered spamming, in my opinion.

Uh not really. Ranting about a subject is not spam. It purely depends on what the person is posting, and how many times he's posting, etc.
Personally I don't see a need for this, we have an Offtopic section for a reason. Make use of it.
Besides, if ranting is considered spam there, then it can be considered spam in the 'rant' section as well depending on what the post content is.

The chit chat section is perfect to vent out anything you may want to get off your chest no matter if it's for games or life troubles anything can go really so in my opinion we don't need another section for ranting when the chit chat section is essentially the same thing but that's not up to me to decide sephiroth is the boss :053:

Personally, I don't think a new forum should be made, or even that the chit-chat section be used. To be honest, I don't think rant threads should be made in the first place. If there is an issue with any given tool, be it editor or trainer, then the user should post about their issue in the release thread. We already redirect members who create new threads asking about editors, and I think this is a lot cleaner and easier for everybody involved than to encourage more threads.

Complaining in and of itself isn't considered spam. It could be flaming or trolling maybe, depending on what we mean when we say "rant", but not spam. Creating a new thread to complain about something that already has its own thread, however, is considered spam. Even when somebody uses the chit-chat section, if they're asking about how to work a tool, we generally point them in the direction of the release thread for that tool and tell them to ask there or to PM the developer.
That way when a complaint starts instead of 30 replies that give attention to the negative statements we could say "Either PM or post in the complaints forum. This is not the place."
Truth be told, the release thread -IS- the place to discuss issues with an editor or trainer, and not a new forum or even the chit-chat forum. It helps the users know that there is an issue to be expected when downloading such and such editor, it helps the developer find and fix these issues without having to hunt down some random other thread, and it makes it more likely that questions will be answered in the first place. Conversely, having a thread dedicated to "ranting" puts the forums in a ripe situation for flame wars; I foresee users breaking countless forum rules, developers rage quitting, and staff getting overwhelmed trying to contain it all. To top it off, new threads just add to the clutter instead of taking away from it, so information will be more difficult to find and the site will become more expensive to run (which might even lead to stricter rules about staying active, and I KNOW nobody wants that).
All in all, I think it would be a great idea if we could count on all of our members (standard members, developers, and staff) to be completely civil about handling it. Unfortunately, about the only thing we can count on in such a scenario is the exact opposite: somebody is going to go too far, whether it's the end user who's just being a jerk, the developer who can't take criticism, or the staff member who deals disproportionate justice between the two. Somebody is going to take it too far.

Well that was exactly what I was saying :) Thanks for clearing it up if it wasn't.
