What you'll get in the box, and how to get started
This March, Microsoft will finally release an Xbox One headset adapter, allowing players to use their Xbox 360-compatible headsets with the new console. Aching to put your wizened last gen cans to work? Bear in mind the following tips.

The adapter works with most headsets with a 3.5mm audio jack or 2.5mm audio cable. Among those it doesn't support are the Tritton Warhead headset, the Tritton Primer headset, the Xbox 360 Wireless Headset, the Xbox 360 Wireless Bluetooth headset or any Xbox 360 headset that uses this adapter. Please accept our commiserations if you own one of the latter.

The adapter ships with a 2.5-mm-to-3.5-mm adapter and a USB cable to update the controller's software - read more about the update process (which is fairly straightforward) here. The following 3.5mm audio headset types are supported, as passed on by Xbox Support:

A single 3.5-mm audio cable headset.
A dual 3.5-mm audio cable headset with 3.5mm CTIA audio cables.
A headset with chat audio provided by a 3.5mm audio cable and game audio provided by a separate cable with RCA or optical connectors. (Only chat audio will be enabled through the Stereo Headset Adapter. For RCA/optical connectors [game audio], follow the manufacturer's instructions to connect to the console.)
An Xbox 360 Wired Headset with a 2.5mm audio cable. Connect to the Stereo Headset Adapter by using the 2.5mm-to-3.5mm adapter that's included with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.

A couple of additional troubleshooting tips. One, the console will automatically turn off Kinect chat when you plug in a headset. Two, it won't automatically mute TV audio when you're using a headset, so you'll need to manually adjust your TV volume.

Anything else I can do you for? The adapter will cost $24.99, £19.99 or €22.99, and launches alongside the official Xbox One stereo headset, pictured above.
