Guide to using FFXED to edit FFX HD savedata

The players from a Chinese forum figured out way of editing the PS3 Savedata by copying and pasting the hex values from the HD save to a PSU save, which then can be edited with FFXED. It is possible because the save structure is identical to the one from ps2 international version except the save file size.

Tools Needed:

1. Bruteforce Save Data 4.7.3 (http://www.mediafire.com/file/9parycgwsoo5623/Bruteforce_Save_Data_4.7.3.rar) or Bruteforce Save Data 4.7.4 (http://www.mediafire.com/file/vzyhrbduj4iiold/Bruteforce_Save_Data_4.7.4.rar)
2. MemorySumChecker (http://www.mediafire.com/download/ls3h5rsk97kfh52/MemorySumChecker.rar) or FFX&X2 HD Checksum Utility (https://www.mediafire.com/file/l38ddkcb6tuf37s/FFX%25262_HD_Checksum_Utility.rar/file)
3. PSU Save template FIXED (http://www.mediafire.com/download/2m5g2qm9p4q57ux/BISLPS-25088FF09060.psu)
4. FFXED (http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-FFXED-Final-Fantasy-X-Save-Editor)
5. HxD Hex Editor (http://www.mediafire.com/download/6nu6ef6paoeevd3/HxD.rar)

Optional
6. MyMC Alpha 2.5 (http://www.mediafire.com/download/s1xixxua16gll1s/MyMc+Alpha+2.5.rar)
7. Ps2 Save Builder 0.8x (http://www.mediafire.com/download/a1qqxgdfcnmaem8/Ps2_Save_Builder_0.8x.rar)
8. FFX INT Ps2 Raw file (http://www.mediafire.com/download/73zldijn6en43xj/BISLPS-25088FF090601) use this instead of a PSU if you copy you're HD saves data at offsets 0-638A into it then you can open it directly in FFXED see Simpler method for more Info

Instructions:

1. Copy your FFX-HD save to your PC, Decrypt it using Bruteforce.
2. Go to save folder and Use HxD Editor to open the file “save”
3. Right click in the Editor and choose “select block…”
4. In Start-offset, put in 00; in End-Offset, put 67FF, make sure you choose hex at the bottom, then Ok.
5. Right click and choose copy.
6. Open up the “template.psu” using HxD. Then in that file, choose Search -> Goto from toolbar, put in 9400, “Hex”, and choose “begin”, then ok.
7. This will move the cursor to the 9400 position, now remember the hex values we copied from the PS3 save? At this location, right click and “paste write”, this will overwrite the values.
8. File-> save the Template.psu. open it up with FFXED and edit whatever cheat.*DON’T CHANGE ANY NAMES*
9. With Template.PSU that has been modified with FFXED. Open it up with Hex editor.
10. Right click -> select block… put start offset 9400, end offset at FBFF. Hit ok, then right click->copy.
11. Go back to the tab with the PS3 Save, use search-> goto, put in hex offset: 00 (the very beginning)
12. Right click-> "paste write" the hex values from .PSU template. Then save.
13. Go back to bruteforce and encrypt the ps3 save.
14. Decrypt the same save again.
15. Launch memorysumchecker, use Ctrl+O to open up the “save” file
16. In the dropdownmenu from left side, make sure you choose X HD in the dropdown menu on left panel, then hit that play button right above it, it should give you certain value on the bottom after “SHOW: XX XX 00 00 00 00 00 00”
17. With that certain value XX XX, go back to bruteforce, on the left bottom where “SAVES” is, right click on that file and “Open Selected file with patch creator”
18. On the right side panel is the cheat for the FFXHD, go all the way down to the working checksum, if you don’t have it, copy and paste this:

Code:

[Update Checksums Final Fantasy X (Working)]
1000001A 0000xxxx
100064F4 0000xxxx

19. Remember the XX XX value from memorysumchecker? Put those four in the XXXX part of checksum above.
20. Hit “save” button on top, then close patch creator.
21. Go to cheat-> apply cheat, and select the checksum to apply it to the save.
22. Encrypt save, transfer to PS3, Play."

This should be a simpler method that i combined

extract the file BISLPS-25088FF090601 out of the FFX.psu
with Ps2_Save_Builder_0.8x

Copy your FFX-HD save to your PC, Decrypt it using Bruteforce.
Go to save folder and Use HxD Editor to open the file “save”
Right click in the Editor and choose “select block…”
In Start-offset, put in 00; in End-Offset, put 638A, make sure you choose hex at the bottom, then Ok.
Right click and choose copy.

Open the ripped out file BISLPS-25088FF090601
goto offset 00
Paste write
Save
Open the Raw in FFXED mod it

Open it in hxD
In Start-offset, put in 00; in End-Offset, put 638A,
copy it

Go back to the tab with the PS3 Save, use search-> goto, put in hex offset: 00 (the very beginning)
Right click-> "paste write" the hex values from Raw template. Then save.
Go back to bruteforce and encrypt the ps3 save.
Decrypt the same save again.
Launch memorysumchecker, use Ctrl+O to open up the “save” file
In the dropdownmenu from left side, make sure you choose X HD in the dropdown menu on left panel, then hit that play button right above it, it should give you certain value on the bottom after “SHOW: XX XX 00 00 00 00 00 00”
With that certain value XX XX, go back to bruteforce, on the left bottom where “SAVES” is, right click on that file and “Open Selected file with patch creator”
On the right side panel is the cheat for the FFXHD, go all the way down to the working checksum, if you don’t have it, copy and paste this:

Code:

[Update Checksums Final Fantasy X (Working)]
1000001A 0000xxxx
100064F4 0000xxxx

Remember the XX XX value from memorysumchecker? Put those four in the XXXX part of checksum above.
Hit “save” button on top, then close patch creator.
Go to cheat-> apply cheat, and select the checksum to apply it to the save.
Encrypt save, transfer to PS3, Play."

Not to hijack your thread or anything, if the PS2 editor works then there is a better, English version out there since days of old... (assuming you were using this Japanese tool thaat you posted here (http://www.360haven.com/forums/threads/34565-Final-Fantasy-X-HD-Save-editor-%28From-Japan%29))
If you were talking about this editor, then disregard the message but there are the links provided.

Although, I'm sure slyful or someone will still make an updated/modern editor, regardless.
But good tutorial nevertheless.

Nice find. FFXED is an amazing Editor that has pretty much everything you'll ever need in FFX. And on top of that it has the nifty lightning dodge editor. Might help with the "dodge 200 in a row" thingy.

i am trying to do this but i cant find .PSU Save template: .PSU Template anywhere for download. i have everything else. You can use the template that Zirothos posted or just use your own .psu of FFX either from a PS2 memcard or PCSX2.

Lastly, I was wondering if anyone knew how to use the FFX-2 Celsius SE (http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-Celsius-FFX-2-Save-game-editor) on FFX-2 HD? Hopefully it's possible just like the FFXED! :D

With all due respect, I wouldn't go as far as to say ignore the whole post.

I assisted you in supplying a link to the tool (with credits) that the tutorial was made for (and the virus scan of it). So that everyone here would be able to download, use the tool and find the tutorial you contributed, more useful.
Also here is the source (thread) that this tutorial came from: http://www.nextgenupdate.com/forums/ps3-trophies-gamesaves/717388-final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster-bds-cheats-incl-video-tutorial-post5756749.html#post5756749

So my initial post wasn't entirely useless.

It should be possible, but I don't know if that Celsius SE thingy supports .psu files, and we don't exactly know what position to put FFX-2 data inside the .psu template. I know the Memory Checksum tool has FFX-2 support too, so who knows.

hahahhahaa no, even when i correctly figured out the structure of X-2 HD it did not matter everything was either reversed in a different place or completely different Celsius se didn't work with last mission to begin with and never has just the Original jap the na & pal version

ive know for like over a week how x-2 last mission & X-2 HD save structure works

and no matter what touching the ps2 save would refuse to load after editing it

and last i checked it only loads a Virtual ps2 memory card not a psu

Yes, so long is you converted your PSVita save onto the PS3 then pulled it off of your PS3.

I can streamline this entire conversion dance into a single app if the demand warrants it, I've already released a checksum tool to nullify the need for MSC, throw in some ps3 decryption and conversion to PSU format and it becomes much easier.
The ultimate solution would be to then merge this app with the editor itself but that would depend almost entirely on the dev, i have no plans to make a save editor but i certainly don't mind coughing the sourcecode up for these improvements, i just hope the thing was written in .Net.

FFXED was writen entirely in java
the creator of FFXED said he would make it work with the PS3 version at some point

It already works.

Follow the guide, but skip the BSD section where you have to enter the codes to decrypt/encrypt the save.

Simply run MemorySumChecker on the Save File after you're done editing, hit the play button, and close it. Then you can safely load the game.

Revised guide for FFXED Steam

[fuzzymillipede]: For the awesome editing program FFXED.

[Requirements]
HxD Hex Editor (Free) (https://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php)
FFXED v0.747 (http://www.mediafire.com/download/a33qkaa949d7wqc/FFXED_0.747.7z)
MemorySumChecker 4.19 (http://www.mediafire.com/download/u17l6hvqy6ucn51/MemorySumChecker_4.19_%28Fixed%29.rar) (Fixed folder/file labels)

[Instructions]
First things first, remember to make a backup of your save files just in case something goes wrong!

Alright, open up HxD.
Your FFX-HD Steam save files are located in ?:\Users\*****\Documents\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY X&X-2 HD Remaster\FINAL FANTASY X.
Go to File > Open. Select your desired FFX-HD save that you wish to edit. (ffx_000 is the in-game Autosave file)
Right-click the giant field of numbers, and choose Select Block
Start offset: 64F8
End offset: 68FF
Next, right-click this selected part and choose Delete. (Ignore the warning that comes up and confirm the deletion).

This will delete junk data from the PC save file and allows you to open up the save directly inside FFXED without having a need for a template file.
Save the changes.

You can now open up the PC save file in FFXED and make your desired changes.

http://i.imgur.com/WkoJ9qS.png

http://i.imgur.com/YdC5EZz.png

Now in order to prevent the game from thinking the data has been corrupted, we are going to use the tool MemorySumChecker.

Open the tool and press CTRL+O which will give you the 'Open' prompt. Select your FFX-HD save.
In that little dropdown box you see, make sure it says something with X-HD in there. Once that is set, press the blue play button.
On the bottomright section it will say something like SHOW XX XX, etc.

That's all there is to it. The checksum is now fixed, and you are able to safely load the game.

True. FFXED allows you to add Key Items though. (Al Bhed volumes for example, which is what a lot of people want). As well as the option to finish up all the annoying minigames like the Lightning dodges, etc. Plus the ability to customize all your equipments freely. ;)

Also, I just updated the guide again, and removed an entire step from it. Turns out the template file is no longer necessary. It's just some junk data in the save file itself that caused FFXED to not recognize the file. It's just a matter of deleting that part of the save in the hex editor, and then afterwards FFXED will recognize the file and allow it to be opened. Then just fix the checksum again with the other tool and done. Saves a bit of extra time. :)

How curious this is that you suddenly today realised that you had extra unnecesary steps...

And you insisted that MemorySumChecker didn't change the files, but when you finally realized that I was right you deleted all your messages and voila! now you say:

WHAT A FUCKING COINCIDENCE!!

And anyone can see the conversation we had, even with some of your messages deleted I have some backed up, and some others I quoted you:

No idea who you were talking to, but whoever you were dealing with on Steam Forums wasn't me lol.
In fact I never even saw any guide on the Steam section for it. The guide I posted here was based of the original guide in this topic. Someone else told me about the junk data on another site, that's why I adjusted that part.

If that part originally belonged to you then I have no problem crediting you.

Yeah, then I must buy that the exact same day I release my guide, wich improves what people have been doing for 2 years, this guy comes and I explain him what was wrong with this method, exactly at that same hour you came up with an idea that you didn't have in the past 2 years, and what a coincidence, the idea is exactly the same as the one I published 24 hours ago. What a coincidence. Sure.

But yeah, the method is original of me, so If you want to do the things with honour, you should give credit to me (and link in the credit to my guide, obviously: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685356413

Again, I based my guide on the original post in this thread. (Which was actually posted long before you posted yours).
The only thing I UPDATED afterwards is the junk data part to skip that step, which was given to me by another person (who apparently got it from your guide instead then).

I saw the posts on the steam forums just now, and that most definitely wasn't me accusing you of stealing the guide. I got better things to do then argue over a guide lol.

If you still feel like accusing me that's fine and all, but at least make sure you are 100% correct on the matter if you want to do so.
For starters, if I was really that guy on the steam forum I wouldn't be offering to credit you after all that.

Either way, I linked your guide and provided the credit. Hopefully that will make you believe me on the matter.

It's hard for me to admit it, but I'm starting to believe you.

If it's true that someone told you in some other site, I would like to know who and where. Because probably that one was the guy...

Some guy named Psychoholic posted it on PCSX2 Forums. He later said he didn't find the info himself (but didn't specify your name).

(I credited you there as well btw. Since I now know who actually found the data.)

Hopefully that clears up the confusion and mixups.

Ok, Thank you very much. I don't care to share the info, but I hate people that rip off ideas and don't even mention it.

I'm sorry if I was rude, I thought you were that guy because he said this guide was his.

Have a nice day :)

Oh believe me, I understand you completely. That's why I'm hoping this entire thing is solved now. I was literally going 'WTF @_@' when you thought it was me posting all that stuff.

And I just finished reading that discussion you were having. (Despite the comments being deleted, I could figure out a bit of what was said lol).

Yes, there is junk data. Give a try to my guide and you'll see. All the data from 64F8 to 68FF are only "00 00":
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685356413

I realized this when I compared my PC save with a PS2 save I had in my computer. They were very similar at the end (except for all this junk data that the PC save had but the PS2 save didn't. So I gave it a try and it worked.

Yeah it's just useless data that causes FFXED to not recognize it. And there's no harm in deleting it to open it up in FFXED. The game itself will automatically fix it again anyway after re-saving.

The PS3 version needs the file length for re-encryption until proven otherwise as data is at the section when you copy the encrypted save from the system

Oh. We were talking about the PC Steam version. :P Sorry for the confusion.

Revised guide for FFXED Steam

Credits:
[Rodrigovda]: For figuring out the junk data in the savedata and providing the required offsets to be deleted. [Source] (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685356413)
[fuzzymillipede]: For the awesome editing program FFXED.

[Requirements]
HxD Hex Editor (Free) (https://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php)
FFXED v0.747 (http://www.mediafire.com/download/a33qkaa949d7wqc/FFXED_0.747.7z)
MemorySumChecker 4.19 (http://www.mediafire.com/download/u17l6hvqy6ucn51/MemorySumChecker_4.19_%28Fixed%29.rar) (Fixed folder/file labels)

[Instructions]
First things first, remember to make a backup of your save files just in case something goes wrong!

Alright, open up HxD.
Your FFX-HD Steam save files are located in ?:\Users\*****\Documents\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY X&X-2 HD Remaster\FINAL FANTASY X.
Go to File > Open. Select your desired FFX-HD save that you wish to edit. (ffx_000 is the in-game Autosave file)
Right-click the giant field of numbers, and choose Select Block
Start offset: 64F8
End offset: 68FF
Next, right-click this selected part and choose Delete. (Ignore the warning that comes up and confirm the deletion).

This will delete junk data from the PC save file and allows you to open up the save directly inside FFXED without having a need for a template file.
Save the changes.

You can now open up the PC save file in FFXED and make your desired changes.

Sorry if this is overkill since i made a thread about it. After seeing this thread i figured i'd post here anyway. I'm curious if anyone could help convert a PC save to PS3?

I have Brute Force and my own PS3 dummy save, i just can't figure out how to
actually convert the PC save. I even tried opening my ps3 save in FFXED and then importing my PC save to it but my ps3 said it was corrupt. Even after doing sum check and deleting the junk the data.

I'd be willing to paypal someone a small amount if i'm able to get my save working

Edit: i followed this tutorial and tried to used my pc save and it actually loaded the save, but unfortunately it just went to a black screen and never loaded into the game.
