Microsoft is gearing up for the June update to the Xbox One that will add the ability to use an external hard drive to store games and content on. System update beta participants have been busy as well by already releasing a utility program that allows users to transfer content to and from their PC plus one user sharing information on better load times while using an external hard drive on Saturday.

Found this posted hours ago maybe we can finally get some stuff running for Xbox One Later this month!.

"Max Console posted details on the Xbox One External Storage Device Converter program. The application allows users to transfer game files to and from their Windows PC. While there are obvious concerns over modding and piracy with such an application, there are some non-cheating / stealing benefits for transferring data. For example, a similar application exists for the Xbox 360 that allows users to share worlds created in “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition” since there’s no other way to do so.

Update: The creator of the app contact us to let everyone know that version 1.1 of the app has been released. It allows those that are not in the Xbox One System Update program to try out external storage and allows USB 2.0 drives to be used.

Those that have used the application have reported good results so far. However, this is not an officially approved application by Microsoft so a certain degree of caution would be advised.

That said, the results from using external USB 3.0 hard drives have been positive so far. Reddit user “brain_chaos” reports load time improvements of 20 to almost 30 seconds when first loading games like “Watch Dogs,” “Ryse: Son of Rome” and “Forza Motorsport 5.” He used a Touro Mobile Pro USB 3.0 1TB external hard drive to achieve those results but NeoGAF users are reporting slightly less positive results. The main thing to keep in mind is that you’ll want a 7200 rpm drive with a large cache if possible.

The June system update is currently scheduled to be released around the time of Microsoft’s E3 media conference on Monday, June 9. It will also include the ability to see the real names of friends, automatically log-in with a default gamertag and new SmartGlass features." - Scott Grill - http://www.examiner.com/article/xbox-one-external-hard-drive-brings-better-load-times-app-out-to-share-to-pc
