I am very serious about making movies and although I have made some good movies using After Effects and all, I'm

ready to expand my knowledge and get into animation. I've heard of a bunch of 3D Programs such as Milkshape and

Autodesk 3D Max. What's the best stuff available for a budget under $1000?

Blender is obviously a great first choice. Despite being freeware, it is actually on par with Maya, one of the most expensive ( and most advanced) 3D modelling and animation software. Daz is also pretty good from what I hear, and it comes loaded with premade models so you don't have to worry about modelling, you only need to animate; to my understanding, the rigs in the premade models for Daz are pretty good, so you shouldn't be worried about sloppy models (you need to pay a small price for each model, but we're talking really cheap).
