Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer mentioned a service called "Xbox Music" at the company's Worldwide Partner Conference in Los Angeles yesterday.
According to Business Insider (http://www.businessinsider.com/ballmer-talks-about-how-skype-will-fit-into-microsoft-2011-7), Ballmer stated the service would be enabled this fall, contain over 11 million songs and be compatible with Kinect.
With rumors of some Zune Marketplace subscription service (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/08/rumor-zune-marketplace-revamped-on-xbox-360-as-streaming-video/) coming to the console and the Zune brand having been on shaky ground (http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/15/microsoft-says-zune-isnt-exactly-dead-that-it-doesnt-want-to/) for a bit, it's possible that Xbox Music is a new name or reimagining of Zune Pass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zune) for Xbox 360 -- or it could be like Sony's Qriocity (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Qriocity). We've contacted Microsoft for any further details.
