Just gives me more of a reason to never go there again. Gamestop has always been money hungry F**ks.

And no I don't want to pre-order anything today!!!!!

Gamestop is destroying the industry! If you buy a used game, the developers and publishers don't see a dime. It creates false leads for those in the business to base their marketing info on (since "sales" don't count used games) and really hits those guys hard. I only ever buy used from them if I plan on taking the game back (like a rental) or if I REALLY want the game and just don't have enough for a new copy.

To my mind if they remove the plastic wrap from the game that makes it a used game. If they then want to sell this at 20$ a copy or so that's fine with me. Stupid decision on their part, particularly if people refused to pay new prices for opened games.

My favourite part was where they said that even though the box was opened the game 'should' be fine. They shouldn't be opening the boxes full stop, I agree with Player8410, if its opened then its no longer new and should be classed as used and sold accordingly. When you buy a game new you are purchasing the box and ALL its contents, that coupon comes as part of the package and Gamestop have no right to remove it.

All in all its a bit petty really, and if you listen carefully you can just about hear the sound of someone about to get sued.....

I never saw this letter come through my store, I did however see an email stating all stores to recall and send back all PC copies of the game.

However, my location doesn't sell PC entertainment.

I've worked in a Gamestop here in Italy, and I can assure you that not all the clerks are respectful for the game packaging... So that's why thay say the game "should" be fine... Aside that maybe the game works but you find a giant cut on the box... That's how gamestop works... The problem is that they cover a very huge percentage of the market and nobady can't say something to them...

OMG that's so damn wrong. Anyone know if this is the only game that they did this too?

Several people I know claim that this little fiasco serves to justify the temptation to never shop at Gamestop ever again. (Who knows if they'll make good on their claim?) It appears that as various entities invest capital in unique game-streaming and internet-based delivery solutions, more and more of these little fits are bound to occur. Personally, my internet connection is far too slow and costly to rely on such solutions, so I'm reliant on physical media purchased at physical retailers or internet presences such as Amazon.

I should have pre-ordered from gamestop especially if I knew this was going to happen because I would have fucked them hard with a 12" lawsuit.

I wasn't exactly surprised when I heard they were yanking those codes out. If you know the whole story, it's slightly understandable. I still go to my local Gamestop, because I've got a good rapport with the people who work there. The company as a whole definitely does suck, though. Kinda glad my local Best Buy is trying to push them out of the used trade-in game. Get much better deals.

Indeed. I used to work for a Gamestop in Oklahoma for 4 years and everytime I'd start opening the daily shipments, some part timers I worked with would run over and wonder if there was any 'free stuff' they could have. Most of the stuff was pre order bonuses so I wouldn't let them and sit them aside for those that actually deserved to get the items... only to come back the next day and find more than half of them missing since main manager said it was okay for us employees to take them. His reasoning? Perk for working there and most of the pre orders never get picked up anyways.

I hated that guy.

What really helps people in this lawsuit is that the product can't be sold as new if it is opened and contents removed between the end consumer and the manufacturer. Many states in the US have that kind of a fair trade clause in their books so its pretty much a slam dunk for those involved in the Class Action.

Gamestop started out as Babbages years ago and I used to go there and get all my PC games, but now they are run by Barnes & Noble company and I have to say there policies need a little work. I purchased my first X-Box 360 from them and within a month I ended up with a burn ring around one of my favorite games. I even had the receipt when I went back to the store and the original box. I just wanted to exchange it for a different Xbox system! They refused stating that the unit looked terrible and told me that I would have to send it in to repair. (Surprise number 2: MICROSOFT REPLACED IT WITHOUT QUESTION)! The only good thing they did was replace the game that the 360 ruined.

I just have not been pleased with their services as of late and was not surprised by there actions concerning Deus Ex!

Technically - Game is used if you do not buy it from the source. In that case Square-Enix, by the way this does not happen for the normal person. So all games you own are most likely used even if they were never unsealed. You are more closer buying NRB, not new. I have a TMNT toy from the 80's that is NRB that I am sure is about 10x more than a new TMNT toy today.

I hope the person lost just to prove his stupidity. Even if you did not read the box. The commercials before the sale of DA:O even said it was a one time use code like most things are now.

Interesting necro on a thread lol...

Anyways, I worked at a gamestop for close to a year. Pay was terrible, hours were random, but employee benefits were decent if you knew where to look, cause no one tells anyone else.
Working there, and going there on a daily basis for a good 2 years, meeting all the heads of the area and all that I learned a lot about GS dealings.
Biggest advice I can give you folks is don't trade in your games at GS, Amazon is a good place to send your trade-in's, or re-sell on craigslist for top dollar, which is usually a max of 40-45 on brand new used releases.
Pre-order bonuses are more guarded now, they print your codes on the purchase receipt now a days, so assholes don't just give em out to everyone anymore. Physical pre-order items are another story, and your better off ordering off the GS interwebs to make sure you get your bonus in the mail.

The only major thing I enjoyed while employed was the employee discount, 1 week free game rentals, and a hard to search, but found 50% discount at logitech.

Anyways, I can answer most questions if anyone has them.
