The latest Xbox 360 update which will be available via the latest batch of games and most likely via Xbox Live in the coming days finally places the Xbox 360 on an even keel with the PS3.

The new update allows users to enabled 3D for use with 3D TV sets. The text reads "Enable 3D to use stereoscopic 3D in games and experiences that support it. The option also has a setting which will detect TV size and also allow users to input the size manually.

The PS3 has had these options for quite some time via one of its updates but is good news that the Xbox 360 finally recognizes 3D games; especially in light of the announcement of 3D support for Gears of War 3, Batman Arkham City and Halo CE: Anniversary. What's interesting is the use of the words "games and experiences", could this mean Xbox 360 will be getting 3D movies from SKY and Netflicks in the near future?

Well its a step forward. Although its still a small market most new tv's seem to be 3d capable now so i think 3d will slowly catch on.

Now everyone, keep in mind that all just because it's a 3D TV doesn't mean that you jump into it and be transported into the game. It will only result in you smashing your head through a nice TV.

this comment gave me the idea, that Microsoft should make a HMD (Head mounted display) then mix 3d elements into it, now that would be interesting to see.

Nice article, but I wonder if 3D will end up becoming the next Betamax somewhere down the road? I for one cannot handle the 3D stuff... makes my head/eyes act up something terrible.

Can't handle the 3D effects for very long either. Whats even worse is wearing the 3D glasses

Apparently 3D is already dying in the cinema, for the extra price it just doesn't offer a good enough improvement in the experience and there are lots of us that just can't watch it without getting sick. It's also going to set games back in terms of graphics, having to do all the work to generate two viewpoints in a rich 3D game is going to mean compromises, they are going to have to reduce graphic quality or number of enemies or level size or something. I'd rather have a kick ass 2D game than a compromise 3D game, although it would be interesting to see what MS can do with Kinect and 3D.

Too bad I don't have a 3D tv... I'm glad they're finally adding the feature though.

Sounds better than PS3's 3D capabilities. Also you can adjust screen now which is must needed.

Overall the 3d gaming in my opinion is not worth it. It gives me a headache after 5 mins. Plus some games like gears 3 dont benefit at all. It actually makes the game look like crap with muddled textures. While other games give it a slight enhancement like crysis 2, but the effect is not worth the headache especially if you play for long stretches

Yeah, I saw a video of it recently and it comes out soon too, November 13th I believe. I hope they make one with a larger screen than 24" but I get why they made it that size. I do like the feature where you and friends can hook up to the t.v. with Sony 3D Glasses and each see your own game play through the glasses.

I have a Sony 3DTV but the glasses are soo damn annoying espically for someone who already wears glasses.

Is there a possibility that older games will be updated to support this new 3D feature?

3D TV technology hasn't really been that mainstream yet. Only time will tell.

Has anyone heard anything about he 3DFury? I heard about it on MaxConsole and read the info from the 3DFury site but past that I haven't seen anything else about it. It's a bit expensive, but for those of us that already have a good HD tv it might be something to look in to.

Not much of a fan of 3D even though i have a 3D HDTV that cost me 1250€ with a 3 pair of 3D Glasses that cost me each a 150€ and while the 3D looks amazing it hurts my Eyes so i barely use the 3D Option.

Interesting that they just added this. I really don't see the appeal of 3d.
