After a bit of reversing it came down to this.

I reversed/wrote the checksum method and found the locations. Feudalnate wrote me a nice wrapper for the whole thing.

Make sure you extract from STFS package first!

It's weird though, As soon as i go to sleep, You just crack the thing wide open :D

I figured out one of the biggest problems I had. IDA wasn't loading the xex properly so I could not hook the function I want and dump the necessary data. Basically what I did was hook the checksum function and make it dump the sections of memory that it was calculating the checksum for. Funnily enough the checksum at the very bottom is written but never checked. If I had a devkit, this would have been figured out sooner.

I must be doing something wrong, i searched both the container and the savegame.bin file in Hex Workshop for the $ amount I have in the game, used the resigner with both files (in every combination) and the savegame still keeps coming up curruprt. What am I doing wrong?

FYI the address I found for my money is 00034B1C in the savegame.bin.

STFS I take it is the container in which savedata.bin is stored? Why would the data location be in two files?

Hey I found some stuff on the way values are stores in the save file that may be some help


60 00 01 00 00 00 11 11 F4 01 2D 1A = this contains 12 bytes / 12 addresses in HEX view, where 60 is WEAPON (60 00) and 01 means that you have 1 item (01 00). as explained game allocates 2 bytes for each value, even tho only ammo in clip and tuning uses 2 bytes.
11 11 < this is the weapon tuning, where weapon has level 1 in every tune slot
2D 1A < this is the rotation and place in attach case
F4 01 < this is the amount of ammo you have in clip
-NOTE game flips the values. so type 1F4 into calculator and then convert it into dec, it will be 500. also note that in RE4 ammo is x8
-if you have 10 rounds left in clip, then actual value is 80.


1-2 - weapon
3-4 - amount of item (not ammo)
5-6 equipped/unequipped (1/0)
7-8 - tuning slots
9-10 ammo in clip (999 is max amount it shows on screen, does not effect real ammo)
11-12 - place and rotation in attach case



huh ? ok let me explain. once you have located your weapon/item in memory, then this is the order it goes.
1 - 2 bytes are weapon value, 2nd byte is only allocated, but weapons dont go over 1 byte usually, only few items, which are not weapons.
for example 9th and 10th byte AFTER the weapon stores the amount of ammo in clip.
if you want to get more grenades, then first find your grenade in memory and then change 3th and 4th byte to FF FF, this will give you maximum amount of grenades which is 65535 (maximum that 2 bytes can store).


Weapon / Item values:
DO NOT put things into attach case, which does not belong there. you simply crash your game and thats all. Handgun silencer also crashes your game if you try to go back into menu, you can examine it, but after unpause/pause it will crash. guess because Leon cant have that item.

Honestly google I meant to give the link, but I forgot All from here (http://sethioz.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=80&sid=774049ea0afd0dd6616408216df47057), Now I'm messing with it myself and can confirm the values are the same, but the the 12 byte format for items/weapons is there but its a little different, I'm been able to give myself a handcannon and some other items at the 1st save point if anyone is interested I'll post the save

EDIT - We've decided to combine RE4 and Code Veronica into one editor :) Jappi is now researching Code veronica, Due to this taking a lot longer than expected, I will release a small temporary tool tonight. That will only be compatible with slot 1 savegame data, But this is just for you guys to have something until we deliver the real editor :)

Figured out how to change the size of your case offset 0x5611, may be different with each save slot, but before your inventory starts, at about 0x560C you'll see the value for your currently equipped weapon, go over 4 bytes and you'll see value 7?, Change that to 7F to have the XL case

Erm i dno how to do hexxing bud you did it for the save in second slot yeah? and the case 0x 5611? jesus would love that thanks for doing it buddy.

Renegade, will the temp editor be able to give us stuff like the Handcannon? If so, I am going to start a new game on Pro and save in slot one just for that, LOL.

Amateur 271930 pts
Normal 13400 pts
Separate Ways 105150 pts
Of course i converted numbers to hex numbers and i can find these numbers at save file with modio
What i tried to do and failed:
1)hex&save with modio(no resign)+resign with program= save can't be loaded-fully corrupted
2)hex&save with modio(no resign)+resign with program+resigned with modio=save loaded but save slots with modified data are corrupted, untouched slots are not corrupted
3)hex&save with modio(no resign)+resigned with modio+resign with program=save can't be loaded-fully corrupted.

What was my mistake?

The Resigner Posted here is only for the SaveData.bin ...

meaning... you have to extract the savedata.bin from your save (Game00_eng).
then open the savedata.bin with hex editor, and edit the thing you want.
after done editing, you should use the resigner posted in the first page to resign the savedata.bin.

inject the savedata.bin back to your save (Game00_eng) and hit rehash/Resign.

that should be all.

thats all in Renegade hands, hes making the tool for this game while i'm working at code veronica.

I made a tool for this game ( not completed...) but without the need to extract the save before editing.
Renegade knows about it, and he can get the source if he plans to do it, but like i said its all up to him on how is going to handel it.

But it would mean i have to re-arrange all of the offsets i have positioned.

Game correctly load gamesave on title screen menu but slots which were edited(changed money) are corrupted.

Of course savedata.bin should be edited through hexworkshop - modio can't read it.

i just cant this one to work, if i extract savedata.bin, i cannot find values from that file. and game00_eu file modding just make file corrupted. Maybe a little guide would be nice, or i just make some mistake. this isnt my first time to mod, so i know something about it. alan wake etc games where pretty easy to mod

EDIT This shit doesnt even resign anything

I'm working on My save I was able to find My save using the # of save converted to hex and the played time. HH * 60 * 60 + MM * 60 + SS convert to hex right after that you have the PTas. But I have hard time finding the Weapon I have the strikers with 69 Ammo in it. I'm Looking for 2D 00 XX XX 00 45. Am I missing something. I think I'm on a good path to Map this But. It' s a bit harder than modding Fallout 1 and 2 :P. But I'm not on my first class with HEX tools But Its my first mod on Xbox.

I've continue my data crunshing geez I'm eating a lot...
Basicly the lenght of a Save Slot seems to be : HEX : CAFC
The Begining of a Save slot will always contain this string : 0F A0 0F A0 0F A0 0F A0
To find the real Begining you need to go 44 Bytes left of this String.
So The header is 70 Bytes
A buffer of 205 Bytes
Then an other 10 bytes (need to confirm but seems to contain the Attache Case Info)
Then Your inventory eatch item have a lenght of 12 bytes.

From what I See Might be repeating what is on
WW WW UU UU AA AA ?? ?? LL LL !! !!

W = weapon
U = Upgrade
A = Ammo
? = still un know (if you figure it out it would be fun)
L = Location in the Case (Still trying to figure it out)
! = is often 00 01 but seems it can also be 00 00 ( my guess is the presence in the Attache Case)

I'm Still Crunching the numbers but it seems the inventory section is quite huge. There some item starting with FF FF. I will check if those could be item not yet enabled. From a brand new save.

I'm not a good programmer but I'll try to do a gui pls dont ask I'm not yet at that point.

I'm on the right path... But i've been missing the most important part the money ... I'll try to add more info on my next data crunching session. If anyone know where the hand cannon can be enabled it would be great.

To find the next save add CAFC to that values and you should find the same spot in the second Saveslot.
