Latest game from studio behind Bayonetta and Vanquish said to be an all new genre.

The folks behind Bayonetta and Vanquish, two games that you really ought to have played by now, are doing something a bit different for their next title.

Famitsu has a first look this week at the next game from Platinum Games. The new game is titled Max Anarchy and is in development for PS3 and Xbox 360.

The genre for Max Anarchy is, according to producer Atsushi Inaba, something that doesn't actually exist yet: Massively Multiplayer Melee Fighting Action. The game will have a "large number" of people (Inaba didn't say how many exactly) fighting it out at once.

Inaba likened the game to a group fight, where you you may end up getting pounded from behind suddenly. Asked by Famitsu to compare the game to something, he said "fighting game," but noted that in terms of gameplay it's different from Sega's old Spikeout arcade brawler.

While this may sound like a purely multiplayer experience, Inaba told Famitsu that the game's story mode is its base mode of play. The game will have a solid story in place, he said.

On top of this, the game's online component will offer players a variety of options, including cooperative elements.

Inaba didn't detail the game's story or character lineup, save one member. Making a crossover appearance as a playable character in Max Anarchy will be Jack from MadWorld, Platinum's stylish, and violent, Wii title.

Sega will be handling the publishing duties on Max Anarchy, which is due for worldwide simultaneous release this Fall.
