If so how often do you clean it? I clean mine inside and out about every 2 months and re-apply the thermal paste when needed.
Random question, I know.

Every couple of months I clean it out, I use a blowing machine to get the dust out and a small paint brush if needs be to get at the bits in the fans etc...
Usually only the heat sinks get dusty though

I use a brush to dust off and a compressor to clean the rest.
If you use an air compressor make sure you set to like 5-10 psi

I left mine for well over a year and it was a right mess inside, must have cleaned out half a cups worth of dust just out of the heat sinks, no wonder the bloody thing was running so hot. Might be worth just taking a look and giving it the once over, might save you having to ship it off to MS for repair again.

I know I should, and now that warranty has run out, they can't bitch about it, so I probably should, she has been moved around a lot and left in rather dusty areas so it would be best.
Though my console was a Piece of shit launch console, couldn't believe how many times I had to send it back haha

Doesn't do it any good, believe me. My heat sinks were clogged up to the nines with dust which explains why my CPU was running at 85 degrees. Runs at just under 60 degrees now (after paying for it to be reballed) which isn't bad for a xenon I suppose, gonna have another fan installed into the side of the console to try and get the temp down some more.
All in all, always clean it every now and again. Might just save you a repair bill down the line.

I just bought a new one. If I open mine up right now. I'd be without a warranty.
I had my old one water cooled but it decided to take a swim one day.
The only thing I hate about these new xbox 360's is that they are touch sensitive. I'll be inserting my usb when I end up touching the power button.
What the hell happened to buttons. If we ever make those big red buttons "touch" in the government. We're F'ed.

I clean it out when it needs it using a vacuum cleaner. I started cleaning my xbox out when it started overheating because there was so much dust. I opened it up the first time and the heat sink over the CPU was a block of dust.

I've had my 360 for about 4 years now and it's never been opened and I've never had a single problem with it. It gets a bit noisy now and then depending on what game I am playing but it's always served me well? Do you think the noise is from a lot of dust or is that just the 360 in general?

If its not fan modded then I'd guess that the fans are cranking themselves up a bit to compensate for the heat inside. In 4 years I bet there's a shit storm of dust inside it and it will definitely be ready for a clean out. Once the heat sinks get full of dust your 360 will heat up more and more until it inevitably overheats and red rings. Might be worth just taking a peek inside and looking.

I personally used to use a small, soft paintbrush to rub everything down (good for the fans and heatsinks) followed by carefully running the hoover pipe inside of it.
After my last 360's first clean out it knocked 10 degrees Celsius off the CPU temps and around 5c off the GPU. Well worth doing for the sake of 10 minutes.

Just got the shock of my life. I decided to open my xbox up after 5 years of use to give it a clean. Now I was expecting to find a lot of dust and crap because I've had it so long. To my absolute amazement there is NOT one inch of dust anywhere inside my console!!! WTH??!! haha! It looks like a brand new machine inside! I guess in a way it's a compliment as to how clean I keep my house lol! My house and in particular the area where my console sits is always spotless. Seriously though, you'd expect something....right?

I don't -leave- my 360 open, but keep the face plate off so I can easily disassemble it when need be. I've been using the same machine since about a year after launch, so I have to keep it in working order; for a while I hardly ever cleaned it, but now I clean it anytime it starts having problems. My disk drive has been failing pretty bad over the past year, so I cleaned it about a month ago and everything's been running great since then.
Mostly I just listen to the sounds it makes, and clean it when I think it needs it. Otherwise, I clean it only once every three months or so. It's been working great for me so far.
