The most famous cheating device in video game history will make its triumphant return to the masses at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.
Hyperkin announced it will resurrect the long lost "Game Genie" as part of its lineup of video game accessories at the annual Las Vegas confab.
The game cheating cartridge first made famous in the 1990s by Galoob for the original Nintendo Entertainment System will work on the Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable. A downloadable version will also be available for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS.
It not only will allow players to earn extra lives and unlimited ammo but will also be available as a "Save Guru" that can apply ridiculous cheats to games and allow for multiple save throughout several games.
With all the new electronics and gadgets CES 2012 in Las Vegas is going to be absolutely phenomenal. Best part? As the official broadcaster of the entire event, SPIKE is going to give viewers at home an All Access pass to see what goes behind the closed doors of CES 2012: exclusives, celebrities, special guests, and surprises that you won't find anywhere else - and it all starts on January 10.

This is un-FRICKIN'-believable! I never thought I would see the resurrection of my most favorite and beloved cheat device: The mother*bleep*in' GAME GENIE!!! Thanks goes to Mojobojo for sharing this wonderful and utterly shocking news with me.
As much as I would LOVE to see this on the mentioned consoles, I don't think it's going to be what we think it will be and I also don't think it will live or be compatible for very long on the above-mentioned consoles and handhelds, except for the Nintendo DS and 3DS. (Apparently, Nintendo is cheat-friendly with their handhelds...) This stuff will probably be patched ASAP...
Still, this news is nothing short of phenomenal...
This is also being reported on other websites and sources besides Spike as well.
This is quite interesting!

I know exactly how you feel man! Same sentiments, dude. (Your English is not too bad. It only needs a few tweaks, but otherwise decent for a non-native speaker. Keep it up.)

Hmmmm. Don't get me wrong, I have some wonderful memories with the Game Genie (Super Mario World infinite star power FTW). But I also have some pretty crappy memories of it too (at a friend's house and get one-hit killed by his "secret" Hadouken). Cheat devices are fun and all, but I think they did good by dying out when online gaming got big.
Think of it this way. Say you don't know how to mod your save. I bet you'd be pretty stoked to have a device do it for you. Well that's the exact thought process of every other legit gamer, except they're gonna be taking that attitude online as well! If you thought modders online were annoying before, just wait until literally every gamer is now has OMG SUPA 1337 HAXORZ SKILZ!!!!1
Doesn't look good, does it? Kiss actual competitive gaming (the greatest part about connecting your system to the internet) goodbye. Every Pokémon battle will consist of 6 shiny Lv100 Arceus, every player in Brawl will have instant kill attacks, Halo will get instant Reclaimers (with auto-headshots), the list goes on. While seeing Game Genie does bring back some nostalgia, I think this is in the "bad thing" category.

I'm in agreeance, if the genie works even for online competitive play, it will ruin the nature of online gaming. I would hope to think that the developers are looking into the multiplayer aspect to find a way to disable cheats and remove "modded" items/ character etc (already implemented prior and new cheats) over the online network, Though the latter will obviously most likely won't happen.
The way I see it is if the game companies (Nintendo/ Sony) go along with this, they can limit it to SP only by adding "regulations" so to speak where the network reads the save and either denies or allows a player to play competitively depending on whether the particular save has got modded attributes due to the game genie.
Though as far as SP goes, bring it on, it will be interesting to see how well it goes with these new games and tech:)

Agreed. This can easily be done by the developers leaving a flag spot in the game data for the Game Genie, and if a Game Genie is used for that game then the flag is tripped and achievements and online are disabled. They could have something great going with this system: developers agree not to patch the device, and Game Genie agrees not to release/allow a code that bypasses this flag. Now that would be something to celebrate.

Game Genie on X360......
Boot up FF XIII-2, load game, and play with my team of Auron + Orphan with Megaman as a monster >.<
I would like it if it doesn't work during online multiplayer, but only offline.
oh wait, I just read your link, figures it would be for the PS3 as the main console. There's a Japanese device, released in 2010 that already does this. I think it was called codeFreak/exploder or something.
I paid $85 for it, then gave it to my cousin, as it works easier on Japanese games, and she has the PS3.
Oh well, I guess 360 owners will just keep on depending on 360H for editors, till we get something similar.

Isn't there already something similar to this out on the 360? Pretty sure I noticed some kind of cheat device when I flicked through an Argos catalogue the other week. Cant remember for sure but think it was called Xploder or something like that.

Xploder for 360 is more of a media center/player and a save downloader. It doesn't preload/softload hex/raw codes the way Action Replay/Game Genie did on earlier consoles.

I honest to god thought the days of downloading all the codes to games individually was long gone. Since all the issues Datel seem to have with every single console they release a device for, they've just moved on to pads or headsets now. Thought it was the end of an era.

It may still be the end of an era. As much as I love this news, it will just get patched up by the respective console/handheld companies and thus be rendered useless and moot. That is... UNLESS they can reach some sort of deal/agreement. Let's hope for the best...

Haha. I still have my one for the NES with that rediculous black piece of plastic on it. Damn thing won't work on my model 101 top loader, though. Anyways, this is exciting to me particularly for the PS3 because you can't do very many simple savegame mods. Can't wait.
Damn it.

If it really coming out then I will be the first in line to get it when it comes out. It's the first device for many of us that introduced "Infinite Lives" to a video game. I will eagerly wait to see how this turns out.

Most of the games had Infinite Lives from the start, or the Unlimited Continues (c) AVGN

It would be nice to have cheats again. As long as they don't mess with the online features of a game and in-disc DLCs, I think they'll allow it. If not, there's always playing the game.

Funny video. Is that 'My Little Ponies' or something newer that I do not know?
It would bring back some nostalgia, but I do not need it. I do have to admit though it did help me to understand Hex and coding a bit more back then. I guess it was and still is good (DS lite) for that for some of the younger generations now.

I agree that if implemented correctly this could be a huge boon for those interested in exploits but not interested in learning how to code or mod themselves. The only thing I can see being an actual issue is that even if Game Genie doesn't release a code to bypass a flag, there is someone out there who will find that code. There are multiple communities dedicated to finding and writing codes for Game Genie, and they would see this as just as challenging as some of the people here see writing a Save Editor for Skyrim, and would devote an equal amount of time to it.
I would love for things to be like they were back in the old days, when a misplaced digit in the code created an amazing effect, but sadly, I don't think it can be done with the way that the industry is headed. Too much emphasis on Multiplayer and Patching to really be effective in my opinion.

Yes, it's true that attempts will be made to create a bypass code. However, a cheat device can be made to not allow such codes to be used (Action Replay was real picky about only letting you use coding that it recognized). If the Game Genie team puts forth the effort to disallow such codes from being used on their device, then the only other alternative would be to patch the Game Genie itself to allow them. There are two problems with this: (1) developers can patch their console/game to disallow modified versions of a legit app (ie Game Genie), and (2) if a person is able to run modified versions of a legit app then that means they are using a jailbreak console anyways and they wouldn't need Game Genie in the first place.
One method that Game Genie could employ is a counter-flag code. Let's say a code is created by users that allows you to bypass my theoretical online flag. Well Game Genie would already be pre-programmed with an invisible code that makes sure the flag is always enabled; this counter-flag code could also be designed to null any codes that the player attempts to bypass the online flag with. It wouldn't be too hard to make program exceptions for every game that's supported by the Game Genie, especially if game developers and the Game Genie team work together to set it up. If both sides work together, there could be any number of security measures set in place to make sure nobody cheats online.
Of course, this kind of thing will never happen. Developers hate modders for always wanting to break the limits they set in place, and there will always be modders that want to take it a step further then what's allowed by the developers.

I hope they can make one for the xbox 360 since i don't have a ps3. But I remember using game genie when I played one of my friends emulators, can't remember. I think he had the cartridges for game genie and and some games but just no console XD

The Game Genie brings back so many memories. For some reason I never liked using it because it slowed my game down. I think I only used it when I could get things like items and money but other than that I never really relied on it. I would like to see how the Game Genie will make a comeback though. Even though I never really relied on the thing, I am interested to see how it's going to come back.
