Re: Report: Next Xbox To Have No Disc Drive Has Durango lost its drive?
ugh.. trembles at thought of digital downloads. for pc its mainstreaming the digital download age thru clients like steam etc. but for consoles they would kill companies like gamestop and gamefly etc but microsoft would also lose money because not everyone has a internet connection such as poor people who dont game online and rather play a singleplayer offline. Also why are handhelds turning to cartridges? like the vita i guess they didnt want a UMD anymore as the proprietary storage
Re: Report: Next Xbox To Have No Disc Drive Has Durango lost its drive?
If they actually do this, they better make the hard drives NTSF comaptible. It'll be asier for people who have extra HDD's or externals (like me) to keep extra games on them. Also, it'll be easier for the Game Devs.
Re: Report: Next Xbox To Have No Disc Drive Has Durango lost its drive?
I doubt Microsoft will do this, they would lose WAY to much business...
Re: Report: Next Xbox To Have No Disc Drive Has Durango lost its drive?
I'll say this again. The way they have it now. Is the way it should be. Digital and Physical form. Not everyone has a good connection speed to download 8+GB of data...
Re: Report: Next Xbox To Have No Disc Drive Has Durango lost its drive?
The only thing people are getting out of this is "DLC only". Everybody seems to have glossed over that bit about interchangeable solid-state carts.
:048:
Bob Chipman did an episode about this in Game Overthinker. This might not be as bad a thing as you guys think. (The lengthy intro ends at 1:20)

Gamestop has a digital part of their store for PC games. They can easily make an app for the Xbox.

Yeah, they need to keep both forms or they will lose a lot of business. Not only do some people have horrible connection speeds, some companies also limit your data usage and charge you for every mb you go over. Aren't they making enough money already? We have ads on every section of the dash now, arcade games have gone up again, and now they are saying you need gold to use most of the new features. If they do go with all digital, I'll give up on consoles and spend that money upgrading my pc, that's where all the good mods are now these days anyways.
Re: Report: Next Xbox To Have No Disc Drive Has Durango lost its drive?
Going back to cartridges or solid-state type cards sounds a lot like a desperate attempt to thwart piracy. Everything they've tried relating to discs on the 360 has failed. Every bit of protection they can come up with has been cracked and defeated. By taking discs and drives out of the equation, it'll make it that much harder to pirate things.
Not to say it won't be possible of course, it'll just require more hardware to pull off. I used to have a Dr. V64 Jr. Those were good times.
