Death of The Single Player?
I have read several articles in regard to the death of single player game in the next years to come. I personally think this sucks, I do sometimes play only with others but it all depends on the game. For example borderlands had the option to do either or. I like playing borderlands that way and I also enjoyed the single player. Some games are not meant to be anything but single player. If this is true what will happen to those games that are single player? A lot of developers are going to force this into single player games and it will take away from the core game itself and if it is a franchise game then it will possible ruin that as well. I have put a link below to one of the articles I have read but there is a lot of them out there, just google them. Let me know everyone input and the good and bad you all feel that could come from this.

Re: Death of The Single Player?
I wouldn't say Singleplayer is dying, it's just becoming less and less popular though.
The decline in popularity is most likely due to how enjoyable most games are with multiplayer, that being said, I doubt some of the bigger singleplayer only titles like Oblivion and Fallout will at any time in the future incorporate multiplayer or coop because it just wouldn't flow well.
Re: Death of The Single Player?
I hope so, not to go off topic but Fallout New Vegas.... WTF... I was so disappointed with that game. The game was good but the glitches and corrupt game saved pushed me away from playing anymore.
Re: Death of The Single Player?
Mark Cerny, as quoted in the above article, is thinking in broad strokes, and he's not alone. We often hear about the supposed eventual death of single-player games, mostly accompanied with an alarmist tone and a bent toward doomsday theatrics. But as long as games are being developed, there will always be single-player games to choose from. Why? One reason, among others, is that at present broadband penetration is still at a woefully inadequate level. However, we can propose a thought experiment in which every human being is equipped with an infinite amount of high speed internet bandwidth while at home, on the road, or even while they sleep, and still it's conceivable that a person might just prefer to play alone, outside the stream. Further, many games just aren't meant to be played by more than one person.
The internet and the interconnectedness it entails has changed gaming forever, and that's fine. And whereas it most likely will continue to diminish the number of single-player content featured in games, it certainly won't eradicate it totally.

Dude i 100% agree with you take skyrim and the amazing deus ex there the ones keeping single player games alive but that said if they stop making games like this or they start to become less popular then a future of only multiplayer games or more games focused on multiplayer with a smaller singleplayer (halo, cod) may seem more likley that singleplayer is dying wich imo is sad because im a massive singleplayer fan.
Re: Death of The Single Player?
.... Applause .... orinwarf that was nicely put and granty101 that is true as long as that keep making epic single player games as you mentioned, at least the good ones will still be alive.
Re: Death of The Single Player?
I would agree, until I played Deus Ex as long as there is someone not connected to the internet, single player won't die.
Re: Death of The Single Player?
I hope it's not the death of single player. I love going through games on single player it seems much more fun to me. Usually playing with a partner or a group just takes away from the game for me for some reason. I like to find all the collectibles and stuff on my own.
