Sega has given perhaps the world's least subtle hint that Shenmue and Skies Of Arcadia will follow Jet Set Radio as the next HD Dreamcast remake for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.
'I can tell you what'll be: Shenmue,' said brand manager Ben Harborne to Gamereactor, when asked which retro games fans would ask for next. 'That, and Skies Of Arcadia.'
'They're a couple of our most requested games. I can't say 'yes' or 'no', but we may be working on them,' he added in a failed attempt to be cryptic.
Whether he meant just the first Shenmue or whether he was referring to it and its sequel as one entity isn't clear. But it's interesting that he didn't say just Shenmue II - which was ported to the Xbox and therefore would be easier to bash out for modern formats.
Beloved Japanese role-player Skies Of Arcadia was last released as Skies Of Arcadia Legends on the GameCube, but whether that’s the version we'd be getting also isn't clear.
There's no word about brand new entries in either franchise, that would be asking too much, but if either are particularly big hits online that's guaranteed to get Sega's attention. Although the original teams, and Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki, have all long since either left Sega or been disbanded
