Sonic creator Hirokazu Yasuhara joins Nintendo

There's a new development in that ancient rivalry between Mario and Sonic, Nintendo and SEGA. Okay, fine, so that war was won years ago - but it seems Nintendo was eying some of the talent behind the hedgehog's games all along.

As reported by Gamasutra, Sonic co-creator Hirokazu Yasuhara has assumed a new role at Nintendo. He will be working at Nintendo of America in Redmond, Washington in an as-of-yet undisclosed role.

Yasuhara started his career with SEGA in 1988, serving alongside Sonic co-creator Yuji Naka as director, game planner and designer for many of Sonic's classic early games, from the Genesis to the Sega Saturn. He has also spent some time at 2K Sports' Visual Concepts Entertainment division, and also as a senior game designer at Naughty Dog (where he worked on the Jak & Daxter and Uncharted franchises). Most recently he worked for Namco Bandai, helping create Pac-Man Party for the Wii.

What will come out of this new partnership, and exactly what Yasuhara's role is, remains to be seen - but we're eager to find out more.
