The original Cave Story first emerged onto the PC landscape in 2004. Developed by Daisuke Amaya, Cave Story pays homage to classics like Castlevania and Super Metroid. Years later, Cave Story arrived on Nintendo's WiiWare service so more gamers could get down with the old-school love. Now, Cave Story 3D is coming to the Nintendo 3DS. With updates visuals, extra content and even more rabbit people, there's more Cave Story than ever before.

What is Cave Story 3D?
Cave Story 3D is the remake of the original independent game, Cave Story, which first launched on the PC in 2004. Cave Story 3D boasts a huge visual update and will feature new content not found in the original version.

What's the story?
In Cave Story 3D, you play as a silent boy with no memory of his past. He wakes up in a mysterious cave and must work to help intelligent rabbit folk called Mimiga. Yes, it's quirky, but that's why we love it.

How do you play?
At its core, Cave Story 3D is a 2D platformer that encourages you to explore the cavernous environments, uncover secrets, and stop the evil forces that are at work. It's designed to be challenging to even experienced gamers.

What's new in this version?

  • Full 3D world.
  • Remixed music.
  • Updated camera.
  • Number of life capsules increased.
  • New secret items.
  • Map on the bottom screen.
  • Dynamic lighting and shading.

Does the 3D work well?
Yes. Although we've only seen it in action for a few minutes, the small, enclosed environments in Cave Story 3D look great. It's subtle and not distracting, but it stands out enough to give the world a tangible sense of depth.

Can I play Cave Story 3D with my friends?
Nope. It's single-player only, folks!

When's it out?
There's no official Cave Story 3D release date yet, but we can expect to see it sometime during summer of this year.
