Xbox Live Gold goes free on Xbox 360 this weekend us

Microsoft will make all Gold-exclusive Xbox Live apps and services free to access this weekend, from 12am PT on Friday 14th February to 11.59pm PT on Sunday 16th February. That includes access to multiplayer, yes, and yes, it probably has not a little to do with the launch of World of Tanks, Wargaming's free-to-play tactical shooter.

Alas, the company's generosity extends only as far as the shores of the US and Canada. It's business as usual for Xbox Live in other regions.

A new Xbox One update is also due this week, which will introduce a new dashboard; there's another one out in March which takes aim at Xbox Live multiplayer features like Party chat.
