NASA recently revealed its newest spacesuit, and the government agency let the public decide the new design with a vote last month.
The Z-2 spacesuit is based on the "Technology" design, which "pays homage to spacesuit achievements of the past while incorporating subtle elements of the future." NASA said the new suit marks several milestones for the agency, including the "first surface-specific planetary mobility suit to be tested in full vacuum" and the "most conformal and resizeable hard upper torso suit built to date."
More than 200,000 people voted on the Z-2 spacesuit design, with the "Technology" outfit beating out two other options: "Biomimicry" and "Trends in Society." The "Technology" design received roughly 63 percent of the vote, and the new Z-2 spacesuit is expected to be fully built and ready by November.
