At a recent Iwata Asks developer roundtable with Nintendo and seven other video game companies that worked on Wii Play: Motion together, Sonic the Hedgehog creator, Yuji Naka, was in attendance, representing his company, Prope. With him was Naoto Ohshima from Arzest, who worked with Naka on Sonic the Hedgehog.

Naka reveals that when Nintendo first revealed the Wii MotionPlus accessory two years ago, he pitched a game to them, titled Haunted Tower, where you would defeat monsters “outside the screen” in your living room, by pointing the Wii controller in directions other than the television.

Unfortunately, this project was later shelved, and Prope instead ended up collaborating on Wii Play: Motion. They created a mini-game called Trigger Twist, involving…ninjas and balloons.

It isn’t clear how far along into development Haunted Tower was before Prope moved on to helping out with Wii Play: Motion instead. It could simply have been in the planning stage.
