    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    What I've determined so far:

    - The first unit of the first byte ( XX XX ) seems to control the damage of the weapon, 3 being the highest value so far before the damage starts to decline.
    - The last unit of the second byte ( XX XX ) seems to control the accuracy of the weapon, but more interestingly the value has an inherent effect on the text color of the weapon (rarity)
    - All the other properties of the weapon have an inherent effect on the value of the weapon.

The reason I split up the results like that is because I'm changing different variables in each section. Now I'm sticking to changing just one variable at a time.

EDIT I'm tired of doing this for now, I'll pick it up later if I need to. Hopefully this helps jappi, it definitely sheds some light on the weapon damage/level requirement.
This is exactly what I'm trying to figure out myself right now. I'm glad someone else is looking into it. I would love to be able to at least mod the level requirement on a weapon which would more than likely change it's damage, etc.

All that work and I feel like I'm not any closer to understanding how to mod a weapon's attributes. Oh well :/

You'd think it'd be easy because it's only a matter of 2 bytes. But they're so deeply intertwined that it's like trying to defuse a bomb to get the attributes you want.

Re: Dead Island - Save editor V1.7

This is weird. I took the two bytes before my Ak from one save which was doing 522 damage or so and replaced another save's Ak Level/Damage bytes with the same thing and it is now doing 488. There seems to be no ryme or reason to this. At least I know a little tampering can get a little extra damage out of my guns.

I think that the weapon's variables is dependent on your character's level and skills to a certain extent as well. That's the only thing that makes any sense any more. If your character has a certain skill or is a certain level as opposed to someone else with different skills and levels, the same two bytes would act differently seeing as how they're passing through your character's level check - which would be different from person to person depending on their skill choices, character and level.

In layman's terms, I think that if the characters/stats are different then the same weapon will have different stats because of it.

True, and I agree. LOL, I took the bytes before a samurai sword on my Purna character, "BD 94" that was doing 2082 damage and applied them to an Ak on my Sam B. It made the rarity orange like the samurai sword, but didn't seem to affect the damage at all. This is pretty interesting to mess with and I hope we can nail down some hard and fast rules to these Hex values. This game reminds me of modding Borderlands so much it isn't even funny. Maybe XanderChaos should make us a Willowtree for Dead Island, haha.
