Now that the 1st Production Department conference has announced Final Fantasy XIII-2, Square Enix's Western arms have now come in to back them up. Their take? The direct sequel will be better than its predecessor in every way. That's very promising considering a lot of folks weren't so happy with Final Fantasy XIII. Maybe this trailer will give you some idea.
According to Square Enix Europe and USA, who have just sent out respective press releases, Final Fantasy XIII-2 will "exceed" Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect. The direct sequel will also sport an "evolved" battle system, but they didn't detail how they are to tweak the real-time turn-based hybrid.
The big story in the sequel is Lightning's rival, who squares off with her in the trailer above.
While Japan gets Final Fantasy XIII-2 within the year, Square Enix Europe and USA say that the game will be coming out in their regions "next winter," which would pretty much be a year from now.
