Gran Turismo 5 DLC Family Upgrade FAQ

Q.
What is the Family Upgrade?

A.
The Gran Turismo 5 DLC released on October 25th, 2011 could only be used by the PSN account which was used to sign in when making the PlayStation®Store purchase.

We heard from those using the PS3™ system with multiple accounts for family members, that they would like to be able to use the tracks and cars of the DLC on all other users on the PS3™ system as long as one of the accounts makes the DLC purchase.

To answer this request, a free Family Upgrade has been made available on the PlayStation®Store from December 20th 2011, for customers who had previously purchased the Course Pack and Racing Car Pack DLC's (including those purchased as a part of the Complete Pack). (Planned Release Date: December 20 2011)

* The Racing Gear Pack and Paint Pack are not subject to the Family Upgrade. these are still only usable by the account which made the purchase.


Q.
How do you use the Family Upgrade?

A.
Access the PlayStation®Store from the XMB (Cross Media Bar) of the PS3™ system using the account that made the original DLC purchase. Search for the Family Upgrade items in the [New Releases] section or under Gran Turismo 5 in the [All] section, and download the items to your system. After downloading, you may need to install these items from the XMB, [Games] section.

After installing the Family Upgrade items, when the game is started by other accounts on the same PS3™ system, it will be possible to install the 'Course Pack' and/or 'Racing Pack' from the [Downloadable Content] button on the Main Menu.

*If you are purchasing DLCs after December 20th you can skip this process. The family upgrade will automatically be applied to all new purchases.

*The Racing Gear Pack and the Paint Pack are not subject to the Family Upgrade. These will continue to be only valid on the account making the purchase.
*Even if you purchase multiple Racing Car Packs on one account, only the first set of cars will be provided to the other accounts in the console.
*Please note that to purchase the DLC and the Family Upgrade, the region of your GT5 disc (Regions: Europe, North America, Japan, Asia) and the region of the PSN account which is used to sign in to the PlayStation®Store (selected when setting the address during account creation) must match. For example, if a user who owns the North American disc purchases the DLCs and Family Upgrade with an account that has a UK address and location, they will not be able to use the DLC using the North American game disc.


Q.
Does the new 'Car Pack 2' DLC going on sale in December 2011 have to be upgraded with Family Upgrade?

A.
No.
It is already possible to use 'Car Pack 2' with multiple accounts on a single PlayStation 3 from the start, and the Family Upgrade does not apply.

*Please note that to purchase the DLC and the Family Upgrade, the region of your GT5 disc (Regions: Europe, North America, Japan, Asia) and the region of the PSN account which is used to sign in to the PlayStation®Store (selected when setting the address during account creation) must match. For example, if a user who owns the North American disc purchases the DLCs and Family Upgrade with an account that has a UK address and location, they will not be able to use the DLC using the North American game disc.


Q.
Is the Family Upgrade required to play the game?

A.
No.
If you are only playing Gran Turismo 5 on a single account on the PS3™ system, there is no need so apply the Family Upgrade.

* Even if you perform the Family Upgrade when playing with a single account, there will be no apparent change to the game.


Q.
Is there a limit to the period in which the Family Upgrade is provided?

A.
As a rule, the Family Upgrade will be provided as long as the Online Service of Gran Turismo 5 is active.

If for some other reason this needs to be terminated, we will make an announcement in 'gran-turismo.com' and in the in-game News section.
