From Software's got a new multiplatformer coming out, we all know that. We also know that they've teamed up with Namco Bandai to get it published. For a time too, we also know it by the moniker Project Dark. That last part, you can edit out from your memory now. No, they didn't scrap out the project, don't get me wrong. It's just the name that they did.
No, they didn't scrap out the project, don't get me wrong. It's just the name that they did. But don't worry, it's not going to be nameless at all. They've already picked out a new title for said project, and it should be known from hereon out as Dark Soul. This was confirmed in this week's issue of Famitsu. But before you get ahead of yourself thinking that it will be connected in some way to Demon's Souls, From Software already clarified that there won't be any such thing going on. According to them, although the two games may carry the same initials, and "Souls" in their titles, they will remain to be separate and distinct from each other. Their storylines won't even be tied together in whatever form you might think they could.
Dark Souls lets you enter the world of "medieval dark fantasy", exploring a vast array of themes, from death and the world, fantasy kings and knights, and a whole lot more. Okay, fine. The multiplayer element of the game will somewhat have similar elements to that of Demon's Souls. But that's just it: Co-op and PVP. Similarity buck stops right htere.
Still no official word on when Dark Souls will come out for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but Namco Bandai has promised a 2011 release window. Here's some more information from Famitsu:
The character creation process will not be class based.
- The play style of the player character will have much more freedom this time.
- There will be many more spells and items, and the animation and uniqueness of weapons will also be increased.
- The online elements are very similar to Demon's Souls. There is cooperative and PvP.
- You can still leave messages, and see players who died at various places.
- There will be no Soul Tendency this time because they don't want to have to use dedicated servers to handle that shit again.
- Instead this time there will be more features allowing players to engage in "mutual role playing" which they say are still under wraps. They'll reveal more when it's time.
