    Thoughts on AMD Processors

Going to be upgrading my system again in the next few months, so started looking around around for some good cpu's. I then came across an 8 core cpu for relatively cheap brand new (Link here), but never really had experience with AMD systems, only that they really are "you get what you pay for"

I'm also keeping in mind that there will very likely be newer hardware between now and when I can start the build but i'm using this cpu as a base to start. (which will work out nicely as i'm hoping newer, cheaper and bigger storage SSD's come out by then)

So anyway has anyone got much experience with AMD hardware, and your overall opinions on the company would be greatly appreciative.

I actually love AMD even though I don't currently have one on my current build. They are cheap and are great as intel. I will recommend AMD for anyone especially for the price. AMD CPU + ATI Cards :D

Current opinion seems to be the 8 cores are better than intel's i series.
considering i have only seen the intels in action, poorly configured and unoptimised (herpa derp laptop store bought) i can't say for sure but most people whos opinions i actually value recommend amd.

From what i remember they are pretty damn reliable, if need be you could always pull up a benchmark site and compare.

I've always used AMD's and never had a problem with them, I'm due for an upgrade myself (I'm on an old Athlon duo-core at the mo) and will definitely going the AMD route again.

Cheers pure, 8ball and longy for your input. I will very likey go down the amd road, my main concern has been alleviated which was reliability, and well price to a lesser extent.

Though after checking a couple of benchmark sites, the only processors that out perform them are mainly server intel xeon's and a few i7's but for their price in comparison, no thank you

Sorry if this is a bit late, but IMO, AMD blew it with bulldozer. It is way too expensive for what it bring to the table.
You have to think back the the Phenom I vs Phenom II days. Pretty much the same deal is going on now.
You should buy a i5-2500k or i7-2600k, since those quad core CPUs will blow away AMD's "8" core in pretty much everything except decompressing archive files.
I am..was... a big AMD fan, I got 5 AMD rigs here, but my new one won't have a AMD CPU, and that makes me sad.

Cheers for your input, Thats actually similar to what a mate has said, still building up the cash to start this build, so am still deciding how I want to go with this, my other choice has essentially became an i7 due to it being a 4 core 8 threads cpu.
